‘Lewd conduct’ = schunnig gedrag, deel IX.
Deze vrouw werd donderdag gearresteerd op het vliegveld van Bombay (Mumbay) toen ze India probeerde uit te komen.
Het is Bollywood-ster Shilpa Shetty en ze werd beschuldigd van de KUS. De kus die acteur Richard Gere haar ongevraagd gaf in het openbaar en die uiteindelijk heeft geleid tot een officiele aanklacht tegen haar voor obsceniteit. In India! In het land van de KamaSutra. In het land waar vrijwel iedere historische tempel is versierd met onnavolgbaar ‘lewd conduct’ = ’schunnig gedrag’ (zie ook drasties: deel 1 t/m 8). Maar ja, toen kwamen de Mogols. En was het uit met de pret.
De filmster werd na een langdurige ondervraging vrij gelaten. Het was immigratie niet bekend dat het Hooggerechtshof (!) de beschuldiging ongegrond had verklaard. De kus was namelijk op de wang.

It was hardly her fault that Richard Gere grabbed her, is it? She didn’t initiate it and she didn’t kiss him back so why is she getting arrested? What was she supposed to do? Slap him and reprimand him in front of everybody? Hardly!

What a load of rubbish. Here were two actors giving their time for a worthwile cause and they get this thrown at them. (It was he kissing her on the cheek anyway.) Do some people have nothing better to do that waste time and money with this nonsense?

I suppose when you’re visiting another country you should respect that country religious rules, although Shipla looked quite taken by surprise by someone elses actions. I suppose even when you know something is wrong and it may offend someone, it’s difficult to be seen as the prude in front of your fellow artists, which is probably how Shipla felt at the incident. It’s all about trying to get along with everyone and hoping you’re not offending anyone in the process. That can be difficult to do sometimes, particularly if you have connections with a country which has far more religeous morals than the USA.
