New killing of Peruvian woman by Dutch prisoner, not Joran van der Sloot, in Peruvian prison triggers investigation
Peru’s National Police suspended personnel from the Lurigancho prison that could be held responsible for the murder of a Peruvian citizen by a Dutch prisoner, reported RPP.
Yesterday, the chief of the National Penitentiary Institute, Wilson Hernández, informed that the body of Leslie Dayán Paredes, had been found inside the prison.
Dayán Paredes, 22, was killed by Dutch citizen Jack Sanford Staing, last August.
Sanford, who serves a prison sentence for drug trafficking, since May 2009, buried the body inside the wall of his cell. [read on] (more…)
EuObserver, Brussels - The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Turkey have US nuclear weapons situated on their soil, the Wikileaks whistleblower files have revealed.

Dutch composer Louis Andriessen has been awarded the 2011 Grawemeyer Award, one of the most lucrative music awards, for his multi-media opera La Comedia.
The $100,000 award, given yearly by the University of Louisville, was announced Nov. 28. Awards are also given for ideas for improving world order, psychology, education and religion.
The opera is based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, was first seen at the 2008 Holland Festival in Amsterdam, and was produced in association with American film director Hal Hartley. It’s Andriessen’s fourth opera.

Republican representative Peter King said yesterday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton should consider whether WikiLeaks can be declared a terrorist organization.
“By doing that, we will be able to seize their funds and go after anyone who provides them bay help or contributions or assistance whatsoever,” he said. “To me, they are a clear and present danger to America.”
*Dear government: as you keep telling us, if you’ve done nothing wrong, you’ve got nothing to fear from Wikileaks.
*Sorry to all who disagree, but to me cablegate represents why Internet was invented and what it should stand for. Freedom of information.
*Is it a good thing or a bad thing when America’s attempts to hold on to power worldwide is subverted?
*Is it a good thing or a bad thing when the most powerful country in the world is no longer able to operate in the dark?
*Are claims by the U.S. government true that WikiLeaks disclosures does endanger the lives of Americans?
McClatchy’s Nancy A. Youssef - Despite warnings ahead of the previous two massive releases of classified U.S. intelligence reports by the website, U.S. officials concede that they have no evidence to date that the documents led to anyone’s death…
Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell has said previously that there was no evidence that anyone had been killed because of the leaks. Sunday, another Pentagon official told McClatchy that the military still has no evidence that the leaks have led to any deaths.
Glenn Greenwald - Will that prevent media figures and many other people from running around this week mindlessly parroting the Government’s claim — without pointing to any specifics or other evidence — that WikiLeaks has endangered lives with this latest release? No, it will not.

Earlier this year Glenn Greenwald wrote about an attack in Iran that killed a nuclear scientist with a bomb strapped to a motorcycle which was triggered by remote control outside his home in Tehran. Yesterday two more nuclear scientists were targeted in a similar manner and one was killed:
Unidentified assailants riding motorcycles launched bomb attacks early on Monday against two Iranian nuclear physicists here, killing one of them and prompting accusations that the United States and Israel were behind the episode, state-controlled media reports said.
The dead scientist was identified as Majid Shahriari, a physics professor at Shahid Beheshti University in northern Tehran, whose wife was injured when a bomb attached to his car was detonated remotely. A second professor at the same university, Fereydoon Abbasi, was injured in a separate, simultaneous attack. His wife was also hurt.
Glenn Greenwald - The Iranian Government blamed the U.S. and Israel for these attacks, though it has presented no evidence for those accusations.

obama vs republican - by steve greenberg, vcreporter
Are governments worldwide going to seriously negociate with President Obama on anything that needs approval from Congress? I don’t think so. It’s seems useless, now the Republican Party has the majority. The GOP has shown that it is prepared to gut everything in their obsession to gain power. Senate Republicans are threatening to block and kill the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), just because they can.
Daniel Larison, The Week:
In addition to raising doubts about President Barack Obama’s ability to win support for accords he has signed, the treaty’s fate will show the world that every administration initiative, no matter what it is, will be subjected to constant opposition for narrow political ends. Contrary to most expectations, the recent midterm election results have not just had some impact on U.S. foreign policy, but are immediately having an outsized, disruptive effect that seems likely to increase during the next two years.
Many foreign governments may decide that it is better to wait until after the next election before entering into serious negotiations with America over anything.
Fox News continues their fight against the war on Christmas that is taking place all over America:
Fox & Friends reported that an elementary school in Florida had banned the “traditional Christmas colors” red and green from classrooms. In a statement to Media Matters, the school’s district spokesperson, Regina Klares, has denied this, stating, “There is not a ban on the colors red and green at Heathrow Elementary.”

The committee suggests using ‘s’ instead of the soft ‘c’.
Sertainly, sivil servants in all sities would reseive this news with joy.
Recently I became aware of a proposal to the Council of Ministers of the European Union for the phased introduction of a Pan-European standard for a more user-friendly communication:
‘Having chosen English as the preferred language in the European Union, the European Parliament has commissioned a feasibility study into ways of improving efficiency in communications between Government Departments.
European officials have often pointed out that English spelling is unnecessarily difficult. For example: cough, plough, rough, through and thorough. What is clearly needed is a phased programme of changes to iron out these anomalies. The programme would, of course, be administered by a committee staffed at top level by all participating nations.

In recent months, Sarah Palin’s political action committee, SarahPAC, has paid thousands of dollars to a mysterious company that’s gone to significant lengths to mask its ownership. Addresses linked to the firm lead to mail drops. It has no website. No phone number. Not even the California lawyer who incorporated the company knew who was behind it. But a Mother Jones investigation has found that this firm is run by an unlikely foreign political operative. [read on] (more…)
Rasmussen Reports recently published results from a national telephone poll that showed that 47 percent of America’s likely voters said the nation’s “best days are in the past,” 37 percent said they are in the future. Sixteen percent were undecided. Just before President Obama was inaugurated, 48 percent said our best days were still ahead and 35 percent said they had come and gone. This is a disturbing trend. (Thomas Friedman, NYTimes)
Despite the very dire consequences of the latest financial crisis that Wall Street perpetrated on the world, America cannot seem to shake its infatuation with Wall Street bankers and traders.
We continue to shower them with riches, prestige and glory. We make movies about them. We write books about them. We seriously overpay and then envy them. This year alone, while millions of others suffer from the Great Recession, bankers and traders are expected to be paid — incredibly — another estimated $144 billion in compensation and benefits. Accordingly, Wall Street remains the No. 1 destination for our best and brightest. (William D. Cohan, NYTimes)
America’s wealthiest men, Warren Buffett and Bill Gates, dismiss calls of the Republican Party to extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2% of Americans. They say the wealthy should pay more taxes. If congressional Republicans would actually want to improve the economy they would listen to them, or economists for ttat matter, or any other American, come to that. But their priority seems to be to fuck up America as much as possible so President Obama won’t get a second term.
Warren Buffett, Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, said that the rich should be paying more taxes and that the Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthy should be left to expire at the end of December.
“If anything, taxes for the lower and middle class and maybe even the upper middle class should even probably be cut further,” Buffett said. “But I think that people at the high end — people like myself — should be paying a lot more in taxes. We have it better than we’ve ever had it.”
