A woman brought a very limp parrot into a veterinary surgeon.
As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird’s chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said,
“I’m so sorry, your parrot, Cuddles, has passed away.”
The distressed owner wailed, “Are you sure”?
“Yes, I am sure. The parrot is dead,” he replied.
“How can you be so sure”? she protested. “I mean, you haven’t done any testing on him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something.”
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few moments later with a black Labrador retriever. As the parrot’s owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table, and sniffed the parrot from top to bottom.
He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog, took it out, and returned a few moments later with a cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, “I’m sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100 percent certifiably, a dead parot.”
Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman.
The parrot’s owner, still in shock, took the bill. “£150!” she cried. “£150 just to tell me my parrot is dead”?
The vet shrugged. “I’m sorry. If you’d taken my word for it, the bill would have been £20, but with the lab report and the cat scan, it’s now £150.
De nieuwe single van Jan Smit, Je naam in de Sterren, is vanuit het niets op nummer één in de Single Top 100 terechtgekomen. Met deze single scoort Janzijn negende nummer één notering.
Een psychedelische uitziende vissoort die zich voortbeweegt door over de zeebodem te stuiteren als een rubberen bal, is geclassificeerd als een nieuwe vissoort. Het wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Copeia bericht dat de vis is ontdekt in de ondiepe wateren rondom Ambon. De vis is bruin-geel van kleur en heeft perzikkleurige zebrastrepen van zijn felblauwe ogen tot aan de staart.
Dit bracht professor Ted Pietch van de universiteit van Washington ertoe de soort de naam Psychedelica te geven. Net als andere hengelaarsvisachtigen heeft dit exemplaar aan beide kanten van het lichaam vinnen, waarmee het beestje voort kan huppelen. Als de vis de bodem raakt, spuit hij water uit kieuwen, zodat het visje als een straaljager naar voren schiet. Verder zit de staart niet in het midden, waardoor de zwemrichting vrij onvoorspelbaar is.

A psychedelic fish that bounces on the ocean floor like a rubber ball has been classified as a new species. The frogfish - which has a swirl of tan and peach zebra stripes that extend from its aqua eyes to its tail - was initially discovered by scuba diving instructors working for a tour operator a year ago in shallow waters off Ambon island in eastern Indonesia.
The fish - which the University of Washington professor Ted Pietsch has named “psychedelica” - is a member of the antennariid genus, Histiophryne, and like other frogfish, has fins on both sides of its body that have evolved to be leg-like. read on here>> (more…)

“I put it to you, Mr Verbeek,” began the defence counsel “that those who criticise the A-League in any way are incompetents and ninnies. That, far from second-rate, the A-League is the greatest thing to happen to soccer since Pele left the womb on a free transfer.
“Well,” began Verbeek, “the A-League can be entertaining. But if you play as open as some games I’ve seen here, you do it against European or South American teams, you would get slaughtered.”
The defence counsel, who had been smiling and nodding at the jury and not listened to a word Verbeek said, looked up.
“So, Mr Verbeek, in summary, would you say that those small-minded bigots in the media pushing the agenda of their parochial little sports by daring to suggest the local league has a long way to go are wrong? Perhaps criminally so?”

A Dutch musician has offended Kimberley Aboriginal elders by publishing music he says is inspired by their culture. Randolf Smeets posted electronic music he calls “Wanjina” on a social networking site widely used by musicians to promote their work. Listen to the music here.
Notes on the site say the work is “inspired by the life of the Aboriginal people of Australia”. “The title of the piece, Wanjina, and the track titles come from the language of the Ngarinyin Aboriginal People,” the notes on the website said.
The manager of Mowanjum Artists Sprit of the Wanjina Aboriginal Corporation said she had never heard of Mr Smeets or his music. Jenny Wright said her chairman Donny Woolagoodja, who created the large Wanjina sculpture used at the Sydney Olympics opening ceremony, had never heard of him either.
Ms Wright described Mr Woolagoodja as a “custodian of major sites”. She said although information about their spiritual beliefs was now available from books and the internet, the elders were upset at the Dutch artist using their sacred cultural materials without permission. read in here>> (more…)
On a weeknight at the New Yorker Festival a fashionable young crowd has gathered to think about monsters. Or, rather, to watch Martin Amis, aging prince of literary chic, discuss the origins of evil with Ian Buruma. Amis slouches low inside his black leather jacket, growling provocations about the Koran in his nicotine-cured voice. Buruma sits straight-backed in suit and tie, speaking in BBC English about the alienation that led Muhammad Bouyeri, a second-generation Moroccan Dutchman, to slay journalist-provocateur Theo van Gogh in 2004. “But Ian,” Amis breaks in, “don’t you think that it is important that it’s Islam?” “No,” Buruma replies calmly. “I think it’s incidental.” Islamic fundamentalists, he argues, could just as well have chosen a secular ideology to justify bloodshed.
Buruma has none of Amis’s celebrity aura - his rumpled cool, irreverent wit or flamboyant speech. However, he matches Amis’s stage presence. He provokes without polemicizing, convincing with erudition rather than style. In a further paradox, Buruma is standing in for Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born anti-Islam crusader who collaborated with Van Gogh on the propaganda film Submission. Buruma, who is Anglo-Dutch by birth, criticized her dogmatic view in his 2006 book Murder in Amsterdam, a meticulously sober account of the decline of multiculturalism in his native Holland. Nu roepen ze op dat ook te doen bij uitvaarten van slachtoffers van de vliegtuigcrash in Nederland dat volgens de gelovigen veel te homovriendelijk is. Ze zijn al bezig met de voorbereidingen van hun reis naar Nederland.
U.S. troops praise Iraq withdrawal: ‘We really didn’t have a lot of direction’.
Today, President Obama announced the withdrawal of most U.S. troops from Iraq by August 2010 in Camp Lejuene, NC. After Obama’s speech, the AP interviewed several soldiers at the military base. While conservatives have long insisted that service members do not want to withdraw from Iraq, the troops interviewed heaped praise on Obama’s military agenda and the withdrawal timetable:
PETTY OFFICER RYAN JUNKIN: All around pretty good feeling. It’s good that he gave some direction. … Because I don’t think we really had a whole lot of direction with what’s going on. It’s kind of defined now.

Today, a federal grand jury formally charged Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri — the only “enemy combatant” held inside the United States — “with two counts of providing material support to al Qaeda.” This afternoon, Fox News host Shepard Smith briefly veered off the Fox reservation and expressed outrage that al-Marri has been imprisoned for five years without any charges being filed against him:
SMITH: He has been held in a military prison for more than five years — not Chris Wallace — this next person. And he wasn’t ever charged. Think about that. I mean just think about it fundamentally. You are held for five years in prison, and you’re never charged! Oh well it was an al-Qaeda suspect, suspected al-Qaeda operative. Who cares who it is?! Today, preacher James Dobson told Focus on the Family’s 950 employees that he was stepping down as chairman of the organization. Dobson will, however, continue to speak out on moral issues. The organisation has been suffering from financial troubles after spending $600,000 to defeat marriage equality in California, recently laying off approximately 150 staffers.
The big question every God fearing American is asking at the moment is if James Dobson is going to use his free time to cure Ted Haggard of being gay? Dobson said he could do it but he just needed four or five years. Rumors have it that James Dobson has asked president Obama to allow, just in this special case, waterboarding to save Ted Haggard.

Ted Haggard was one of the most prominent evangelical leaders in the nation until he admitted to having a sexual relationship with a male prostitute and buying meth.
James Dobson, who considers Haggard a “close friend,” told CNN’s Larry King last night that he was “asked to serve on a three person restoration panel.” One purpose of the panel, Dobson acknowledged, was to “restore [Haggard] from being gay to not gay.” Dobson said he didn’t have time to participate, however, because such a process “could take four or five years.” Steve Benen looks at Dobson’s legacy:

Amerika kun je ruwweg verdelen in twee sferen; rechts Amerika en de rest. In de rest bevindt zich: links Amerika, wetenschappers, socialisten, vechters voor het milieu, hollywood, agnosten en noem maar op. Een probleem dat Glenn Greenwald vaststelt is dat de twee sferen niet of nauwelijks direct met elkaar communiceren. Er zijn Republikeinse politici die nog nooit op een door hen als links ervaren netwerk zijn verschenen. De dappere Dick Cheney keek alleen naar Fox News. Ook liet hij zich alleen door dat netwerk interviewen, of mensen als Rush Limbaugh (’I hope Obama will fail’). Als de vice-president op reis was, stuurde hij van te voren een lijst met eisen waarop stond dat alle tv’s die hij zou kunnen tegenkomen op FoxNews afgestemd moesten zijn. Dit is geen grapje! In Nederland zie je dat helemaal niet. En gelukkig is Allerpamstliefste op dat gebied nog helemaal Nederlands. Die gaat hier op drasties frontaal de discussie aan met andersdenkenden. Dappere meid, petje af!

Our political discourse is so stratified that politicians and pundits can get all the exposure they want while confining themselves to hospitable venues and only speaking to sympathetic journalists. That, as but one example, is what fuels “access journalism” — the willingness of politicians to speak only to deferential reporters, who stay deferential in order to ensure that those politicians continue to speak with them, a process that perpetuates itself ad infnitum. That has created a virtually complete — and quite destructive — accountability-free zone where politicians and pundits alike can simply avoid any form of adversarial questioning or challenges to their claims [in fact, ironically enough, one of my criticisms of Ambinder during the recent State Secrets controversy was that, when defending the Obama administration’s position as conveyed by anonymous DOJ officials (whose anonymity prevented them from being questioned or otherwise engaged), he failed to speak with or even cite anyone who had an opposing view].

Binnen niet al te lange tijd strekt de Sahara zich uit tot ver in Europa.
De nog geen miljard mensen die dan nog leven, zullen vooral te vinden zijn op de polen. Leven rond de evenaar is niet meer mogelijk. Al met zullen zo’n zes miljard mensen er onderdoor gaan. Dat staat te gebeuren als de temparatuur niet twee maar vier graden gaat stijgen. En dat kan al in veertig jaar plaatsvinden, schrijven gerenommeerde wetenschappers in New Scientist.
De mensheid zal zich drasties moeten aanpassen. Omdat de meeste landdieren opgegeten zijn, moeten we allemaal vegetariër worden. Ook vissen zullen grotendeels uit de wereldzeeën verdwijnen door de toenemende vervuiling. Mensen moeten in hooggelegen gebieden gaan wonen om de laatste overgebleven vruchtbare grond te ontginnen. Daarnaast zullen er dwars door Noord-Afrika, het Midden-Oosten en het zuiden van de VS gigantische velden met zonnepanelen aangelegd moeten worden om energie op te wekken.
“De mensheid bevindt zich op een kruispunt in de geschiedenis en ik vrees dat we niet intelligent genoeg zijn om deze komende klimaatveranderingen te overleven. Onze soort redt het wel hoor, maar ons aantal zal deze eeuw met gigantische hoeveelheden gaan afnemen“, aldus NASA wetenschapper James Lovelock.

Het ontbijt op zaterdagochtend was weer ontaard in ruzie. Kleine dingetjes. Grote dingetjes. Alle irritaties van de afgelopen week passeerden de revue.
Daarna gingen we, zoals al jaren, samen naar de markt, alsof er niets gebeurd was. Mijn vrouw bestelde een kilo druiven. Terwijl de marktkoopman wegliep om ze te gaan afwegen, kwam een collega van hem vragend overeind.
“Horen jullie bij elkaar?”
“Nee”, zei ik.
Okee. Dus er is wel ruimte voor een andere mening maar die moet dan wel helemaal weerlegd worden? Dan heb ik een dagtaak aan die onzin die hier dagelijks uit wordt gekraamd! Ik zie dat je rustig de tijd hebt genomen alles eens te googelen, jammer dat je alleen websites hebt bezocht voor je informatie die net als jij denken en niet de meer objectieve.
Fraai is dat toch, dat mensen zich veilig voelen in een grote groep waar iedereen z’n neus dezelfde kant op heeft staan. Eng he, een andere mening?? Waar doet me dat toch aan denken? Oh ja! Nederland anno 2009! Waar de vrijheid elke dag meer ingeperkt wordt, waar je als cartoonist al gesluierd op tv moet komen omdat je bang bent nog een keer door de politie opgepakt te worden of in elkaar geslagen worden. Of vermoord zoals Theo van Gogh. Of waar je niet meer roken mag in cafe’s omdat ‘men’ dat beter voor je vindt. En waar de winkels straks op zondag weer dicht gaan, omdat dat beter is voor de zondagsrust. Vrijheid? Ho maar!! En mensen slikken het blijkbaar, murw?
Of geen eigen mening meer? Hier, in de VS is die vrijheid er dus nog. En die neemt Glenn Beck, of je het met hem eens bent of niet. Ik ben ook tegen vrije verkoop van wapens. Maar daarmee zet ik Glenn Beck niet weg als een fascist. Nog zeg ik, omdat de democraten, net als de machtsbeluste mafkezen van het CDA en Christenunie ook een dikke vinger in de pap willen hebben. Wat nou ze zijn er voor de kleine man? Onzin!
De democraten binden de onderklasse aan zich, maken ze afhankelijk, als vee. Net als mensen afhankelijk maken in Nederland van bijstand, kinedrbijslag en huursubsidie; dit is de macht uit handen geven, iets waar mensen als Glenn Beck voor passen. Stimulus package my ass. Hoe kun je iets een tax cut noemen als je het aan de 50% Amerikanen geeft die geen belasting betaald? Het maakt mij niet uit, ik vind het prima, maar noem het dan wat het is, extra geld van de belasting betalers nar de niet belasting betalers, oftewel; inkomens nivelering. Oh wacht! Dat mag ik niet zeggen, dat is niet FAIR! Een koop polis is het. Een polis waarbij de democraten zich weer voor twee jaar kiezers koopt. Niks voor de kleine ondernemer, waar 70% van de banen liggen. In mijn staat zelfs meer dan 80%. En een tax increase voor ons, kleine ondernemers. “Geeft toch niks!””eindelijk fairness in de USA!!” De belasting gaat omhoog, in tijden van crisis, heeft door de jaren heen nog nooit geholpen. Bovendien wordt de winst van de kleine bedrijven die nog de koppen boven water hebben, bij ons persoonlijke inkomen opgeteld so guess what? Mensen gaan hun werknemers ontslaan. Het is niet meer te betalen mensen aan het werk te houden. Daar, waar de hele Amerikaanse economie op draait, wordt om zeep geholpen omdat het ‘niet fair is’. Maar dat zien we niet. Wij kijken met onze Nederlandse ogen naar een compleet ander land,
met een andere mentaliteit, andere geschiedenis, andere grondwet, maar plaatsen het in een Nederlands kader en kijken naar Amerika en denkt, “Ziezo, eindelijk zoals het hoort!’ We moeten van Amerika net zo’n fair land maken als Nederland, waar iederen overal RECHT op heeft. En geholpen moeten worden bij elke scheet die ze dwars zit. En waar we beslissingen moeten nemen voor iedereen, want dat kunnen of willen de stumperts zelf niet meer. Ik ben hier naartoe verhuisd met het idee dat je hier nog dingen kunt doen.
Als je een bedrijfje wilt beginnen dan kan dat, als je op je bek gaat dan begin je opnieuw. Geen vangnet, maar wel grote kansen. Succes is hier geen vies woord, en Obama zelf is het voorbeeld van dat je echt kunt bereiken wat je wilt als je hard wilt werken. Maar dat mag je al helemaal niet meer zeggen. DAT IS NIET FAIR! Er zijn zoveel mensen die die kans niet krijgen… My ass! En echt hoor, er zijn hier ook uitkeringen, goedkope (of gratis) huurhuizen en dat die niet zo mooi zijn, oeh, wat unfair! Daar staat Glenn Beck dus voor, voor die vrijheid.
Hij is allesbehalve een rascist of een fascist, net zo min als Wilders dat is. Met zo’n domme uitspraak saboteer je bij voorbaat een discussie. Nederland moet zich kapot schamen hoe ze met Wilders omgaan. Hoe dom dat is. Ik ben het helemaal niet met hem eens, maar daar gaat het niet om. Door hem zo weg te zetten wordt dus de hele discussie, om de overgevoeligheid van een groep Moslims, om de kont-dicht-knijpende benauwdheid eens te zeggen wat je denkt om zeep geholpen. Met het gevolg dat het laffe Den Haag niet weten hoe ver ze in de bipsen van de imams en aanhangers moeten klimmen. Hier is godzijdank de vrijheid van meningsuiting beter beschermd, en mag je zeggen wat je wilt. Nederland gaat zo gebukt onder een misplaatste tolerantie, dat je je werkelijk afvraagt waar iedereen nou zo bang voor is. Men mag niet meer kwetsen tegenwoordig. Wat is daar nou erg aan? En daar bedoel ik niet haat zaaien mee.
Dat wat imams doen bijvoorbeeld. Het opent discussies, een andere mening hebben is niet hetzelfde als haat. Glenn Beck is een verdediger van waar de VS voor staat: zelfredzaamheid, je eigen boontjes willen doppen, kansen creëren voor jezelf. Maar nee, laten we allemaal maar lekker tegen Glenn Beck zijn, en Fox, en de idioten van rechts (en ja ik begrijp heus wel dat jullie bij Drasties ook allemaal tegen Obama en Pelosi en criminelen als Harry Reed zijn) alleen wordt het gemakshalve nooit gemeld. Allerpamstliefste Says: februari 25th, 2009.
1. apl: “Eng he, een andere mening?? Waar doet me dat toch aan denken? Oh ja! Nederland anno 2009!” De suggestie dat op drasties geen andere meningen aan het woord komen., is absurd. Wij hebben hier alle elders verboden cartoons gepubliceerd, ook de Deense. Plus allerlei andere zaken, waaronder een artikel dat door de Nederlandse schrijver (Willem zwijgt niet meer) zelf uit angst voor represailles van de linkse kraakbeweging van zijn eigen blog was weggehaald.
Wij publiceren alles wat relevant is. Dat drasties alleen naar linkse sites zou kijken, is onjuist. JdeW kijk bijvoorbeeld regelmatig naar Amerikaanse blogs als Instapundit, Drudge Report, Michelle Malkin noem maar op… Het probleem met die blogs is niet dat ze rechts of links zijn maar dat ze zo vaak onzin verkopen. JdeW komt er meestal niet doorheen.
Zie bijvoorbeeld de posten hieronder, met feiten gestaafd, van alleen maar zaken die gisteren en vandaag zijn gepubliceerd of gezegd: Drudge report, Fox News, Wall Street Journal (strawmen), CNBC en CPAC. Bekijk vooral die van Glenn Beck.
2. apl: “Nederland anno 2009! Waar de vrijheid elke dag meer ingeperkt wordt.” Enkele verschillen tussen de VS en Nederland.
In de VS mocht onder de, door apl zo hartstochtelijk verdedigde, Republikeinen iedereen worden bespioneerd zonder toezicht. In Alabama is de gemiddelde celstraf voor bezit van een minieme hoeveelheid marihuana 8,4 jaar. Een kwart van alle gevangenen in de wereld zit in een Amerikaanse gevangenis. In de VS is euthanasie taboe. Verkoop van zoveel mogelijk wapens aan zoveel mogelijk mensen is natuurlijk niet verboden. Mensen die daar tegen zijn, zijn anti-kapitalistische communisten. De Republikeinen, die apl verdedigt, willen abortus, zelfs in geval van verkrachting, verbieden.
3. apl: Men mag niet meer kwetsen tegenwoordig. Wat is daar nou erg aan? En daar bedoel ik niet haat zaaien mee. Dat wat imams doen bijvoorbeeld.”
Het idee dat in Nederland niet gezegd mag worden wat men wil, is veel te simplistisch. Iemand als Geert Wilders zit notabene in de Tweede Kamer. Apl vindt dat kwetsen mag maar het haatzaaien van imams weer niet. Dat is nou precies waar de discussie in Nederland over gaat, apl. Wat is nu wel en niet haatzaaien? Waarom mag een imam iets niet zeggen en Wilders wel, en andersom. En om apl gerust te stellen. Er wordt echt tegen de klippen op gekwetst in Nederland.
4. apl: “Als je een bedrijfje wilt beginnen dan kan dat, als je op je bek gaat dan begin je opnieuw. De economische vrijheid van slimme mensen om zonder enig mededogen minder slimme mensen te gebruiken. Wat veel rechtse Amerikanen voorstaan is feitelijk het recht van de sterkste. Precies hetzelfde recht waarvan president Bush in zijn acht jaar volop gebruik heeft gemaakt. Net zo lang bombarderen tot ze democratisch zijn. Gezien haar verdediging van de Republikeinen is apl blijkbaar tevreden met de staat waarin Amerika verkeert. Onze lieve Heer (vzmh) heeft rare kostgangers, zullen we maar zeggen.
Maar los van morele kant van de zaak. Waar heeft die economische vrijheid die de Republikeinen zo voorstaan dan toe geleid apl? Ik heb verder geen zin het allemaal weer eens op te lepelen, - verstandige economen weten dat te grote economische vrijheid tot rampspoed leidt - maar doe je ogen eens open en kijk gewoon naar de cijfers. Vergelijk de economische situatie onder Clinton en Bush (1 en 2). Of vergelijk eens in het algemeen Democratische presidenten met Republikeinse wat de economie betreft, al neem je alleen maar de aandelenmarkten (maat voor succes bedrijfsleven) en inkomensgroei (maat voor jouw geld).
5. apl over Glenn Beck: Hij is allesbehalve een racist of een fascist, net zo min als Wilders dat is. Met zo’n domme uitspraak saboteer je bij voorbaat een discussie.
Ik heb Beck geen racist of fascist genoemd. En volgens mij heeft niemand op drasties Glenn Beck ooit een racist of fascist genoemd. Integendeel, het is de totale nitwit Glenn Beck die voortdurend mensen - bijvoorbeeld Barack Obama en Al Gore - vergelijkt met nazi’s, communisten en stalinisten.
Glenn Beck is helemaal geen verdediger van zelfredzaamheid in de VS. Hij is een verdediger van het recht van de sterkste. Hij is net zo rabiaat in zijn opvattingen als mensen als O’Reilly en Hannity maar weet daar bovenop ook nog eens van toeten noch blazen. Zijn type wordt het best beschreven door de beroemde Amerikaanse historicus Richard Hofstadter 45 jaar geleden:

The markets opened this morning with a sustained decline, which Reuters attributed to a new “report showing yet more deterioration in the housing market.” Matt Drudge, however, wanted to blame it on President Obama, so he posted an auto updating graph of the Dow Jones Industrial average. Under that, in large block letters, Drudge asked, “WAS IT SOMETHING HE SAID?” But as the day passed, the market rebounded, and Drudge was left suggesting that Obama was responsible for the rally:
Drudge couldn’t let that stand so, several minutes later, he changed the headline:
But then, shortly before the closing at 4:00 PM, the market declined again. What did Drudge do? He hurriedly changed it back, typos and all:
Matt Yglesias wrote recently, “Not only is it obviously stupid for political commentators to be assessing the quality of economic policy by tracking the ups-and-downs of the stock market but the fact that the commentators who want to do this keep wanting to specifically use the Dow Jones Industrial Average just highlights their ignorance. Not only is there no particular significance to the stock market as such, but there’s no particular significance to this index.”

Het hele Bush-presidentschap was zo’n beetje gebaseerd op het toeschrijven van hele foute standpunten aan onbenoemde tegenstanders. Strawmen accusations, heet dat in de VS. Dit is een perfect voorbeeld: “Wij geloven dat ons land het recht heeft zich te verdedigen - ook al denken anderen daar soms anders over.”
Mensen die kunnen nadenken weet dat NIEmand in de VS tegen het verdedigen van het land is. In dat soort valse voorstellingen was Karl Rove een meester. Nu verwijt deze politieke strateeg in de Wall Street Journal president Obama dezelfde taktiek toe te passen.

Glenn Beck is onlangs van CNN overgestapt naar Fox News en zelden is een grotere aanfluiting op tv te bewonderen geweest. Neem nu dit interview dat hij gisteren had met Rob Kampia over het voorstel om marihuna te legaliseren in Californië. Zoals vaak op drasties uitgelegd is legalisatie van (op zijn minst) softdrugs in alle opzichten goed. Het is goed voor de staat, voor de politie, voor de rechtspraak, voor de gevangenissen en voor de gezondheid. Ook hier noemt Glenn Beck zich een libertarian, iets wat hij absoluut niet is, zoals hier op drasties met feiten is gestaafd. Hij was bijvoorbeeld nooit voor de legalisatie van drugs. Wel is hij voor het uitsluiten van dat linkse Californië uit de Verenigde Staten. Echt waar mensen, als je iets wilt begrijpen van de discussie op drasties over deze nitwit kijk dan even naar dit actuele videootje. Een dikke minuut slechts. Wie heeft verder een goede vertaling voor ‘gaping stupidity’? Voor mensen die principieel geen video’s willen bekijken: hier de tekst van het hele interview.

Glenn Beck had on Rob Kampia of the Marijuana Policy Project to discuss the proposal to decriminalize pot possession in California and to use the revenues to pay down the state’s budget deficit.
Now, Beck has already wished aloud that we could kick California out of the Union, so no doubt this just adds to his angst.
But if you’ll notice: One person in this conversation was calm, reasonable, had an abundance of facts at hand, and actually made pretty good sense. The other person was incoherent, meandering, silly, made a lot of irrelevant observations from outer space, and relied on dumb stereotypes and non-facts.
And Glenn Beck was not the former. On top of that, his nonstop sneering at Kampia made him look like a real sphincter.
In fact, this entire clip generally makes a convincing argument in favor of the marijuana advocates. If the best the opposition can come up with is this kind of gaping stupidity …

CPAC audience roars when speaker suggests Obama wasn’t born in U.S.
ThinkProgress is attending the right-wing Conservative Political Action Conference today. Earlier this afternoon, Cliff Kincaid, head of a conservative group Accuracy in Media, introduced Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN). Kincaid suggested that President Obama is a communist, then suggested Obama was not born in the United States — to which the crowd cheered wildly.
Despite the fact that it has been thoroughly and repeatedly debunked, radical conservatives continue to peddle the ridiculous myth. Last weekend, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) noted that he had never seen Obama’s birth certificate. Trying to calm the ensuing firestorm, a spokesman for Shelby claimed the senator “was not saying and I’m not saying he (Obama) is or isn’t [a U.S. citizen], he was just saying he hasn’t seen one (a birth certificate).”
