Ik ben nog uit de tijd dat kantoorcollega’s die naar huis gingen met twee zware ‘loodgieterstassen’ werden bewonderd als ‘belangrijk en druk’. Tot de tas van een van hen in de lift een keer opensprong en vooral een grote plastic broodtrommel, twee bananen en wat tijdschriften bleek te bevatten.
Tegenwoordig zie ik ze in de trein zitten met hun iPhones, met de tong tussen de lippen ingespannen belangwekkende dingen aan het doen. Emails? Afspraken? Berekeningen?
Mijn buurman van vanmorgen zag er erg belangrijk uit. Strak in het pak. Stropdas. Ik kon het niet nalaten op zijn schermpje te gluren. Ik zag een slangetje kronkelen dat hapjes moest opeten en blokjes ontwijken.

Apiedapie

Op 9 november wordt de val van de Muur - twintig jaar geleden - herdacht met een parade van oude Trabants naar de Duitse ambassade in Den Haag. Als hoogtepunt zal de Duitse ambassadeur met een Trabi door een kartonnen muur rijden. Een ambulance staat klaar.
De Trabantclub Nederland - telt ongeveer 600 Trabi’s - zal massaal deelnemen aan de optocht en ook Duitse Trabi’s worden verwacht. De wegenwacht heeft toegezegd extra auto’s te zullen inzetten vanaf de grensovergangen met Duitsland. De Duitse ambassade zal zelf voor takelwagens zorgen. De gemeente Den Haag doet een dringende oproep aan de bevolking om op negen november ramen en deuren gesloten te houden. Overwogen wordt om een smog waarschuwing uit te laten gaan. Volgens de burgemeester liggen plannen voor een eventuele evacuatie klaar.
De Oostduitse auto met de pruttelende tweetaktsmotor wordt helaas niet meer gemaakt. Oost-Duitsers konden destijds een Trabi bestellen maar moesten daarop jaren wachten. Zie ook onderstaande geweldige video.

Den Haag, Sächsische Zeitung — Mit einer Trabi-Parade vor der deutschen Botschaft in Den Haag wollen niederländische Besitzer des „DDR-Volkswagens“ am 9. November den 20. Jahrestag des Mauerfalls feiern. Das kündigte der Trabant-Fanclub, der nach eigenen Angaben rund 200 aktive Mitglieder hat, gestern an. Der Club tritt „für den Erhalt und die Erweiterung des Trabant-Bestandes in den Niederlanden“ ein.

Het Nederlandse voorstel om mensen geen werkloosheidsuitkering te geven als ze weigeren tijdens het werk de boerka af te doen, haalt met instemming de pers in andere landen.
Het nieuwe beleid in Nederland lijkt dus te worden: draag gerust die boerka maar dan wel thuis. Fijn voor de moslim mannen!
En het gaat hierbij overigens niet om de religie. Wist u dat de werkloosheidsuitkering ook kan worden ingetrokken voor mensen met extreme piercings, tatoeages of een dopneus?

Niederlande: Kein Arbeitslosengeld für Burkaträgerinnen

Die Presse, Den Haag — Ein neues Gesetz sieht die Streichung staatlicher Unterstützungen vor, wenn Frauen die Burka nicht ablegen. Bemerkenswert ist, dass sich nun auch die Stadt Amsterdam dem Burkaverbot anschließt.
Muslimische Frauen, die eine Burka tragen und deshalb keine Arbeit finden, können künftig in den Niederlanden weder mit Arbeitslosengeld noch mit Sozialhilfe rechnen. „Die Burka ausziehen, oder es gibt keine staatliche Unterstützung mehr“, lautet die neue Politik in den Niederlanden.
Sie wird in Utrecht und Amsterdam bereits praktiziert.

jon stewart demolishes fox news “indoctrinating school kids” attack

The American health care system would be the best in the world if Americans would just stop shooting people dead. And it would be even better if Americans would rely more on public transportation like those damn socialist European countries. That’s the opinion of senator John Ensign (R-NV). He argued that comparisons are unfair because they include deaths from auto accidents and gun violence, which are unique “cultural factors”. The US ranks 22nd in the world in preventable deaths.

ENSIGN: When you take into account cultural factors — the fact that we drive cars a lot more than any other country; we are much more mobile…
If you take out accidental deaths due to car accidents, and you take out gun deaths — because we like our guns in the United States and there are a lot more gun deaths in the United States — you take out those two things, you adjust those, and we actually better in terms of survival rates.

Republican Ensign is proud of the cultural factors that kill thousands of Americans each year. Instead of trying to improve the health care system to better address injuries from cars and guns, Ensign would like to just wipe them off the books and ignore them because they’re so unique to America. read on>> (more…)

Mevrouw Phyllis Schlafly is een ikoon van de rechtse beweging in de VS. En wat ze zegt is waar want haar uitspraken zijn gezegend door de Republikeinse presidentskandidaat dominee Mike Huckabee.

Phyllis Schlafly (video), the anti-Equal Rights Amendment activist who heads the Eagle Forum, hosted the right-wing conference How To Take Back America last weekend. Several GOP members of Congress attended the conference, and each paid their respects to Schlafly for her leadership in the conservative movement. Speech:

I submit to you that the feminist movement is the most dangerous, destructive force in our society today. […] My analysis is that the gays are about 5% of the attack on marriage in this country, and the feminists are about 95%. […] I’m talking about drugs, sex, illegitimacy, drop outs, poor grades, run away, suicide, you name it, every social ill comes out of the fatherless home.

At the closing ceremony, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) thanked Schlafly for her critical support of his candidacy last year, and Mike Huckabee stood by as she was presented with the “American Hero of the Century” award. “God bless you,” said Huckabee, “and God bless Phyllis Schlafly most of all.”

Muisarm

De blonde secretaresse is een oude bekende op ons RSI-spreekuur. Met wekelijks twintig ‘documenten’ valt ze ruimschoots binnen de hoogrisico-criteria. Ze heeft al vaak een slap handje opgelopen. Ook ditmaal is het raak. Ze baalt, want zonder hand kan ze niet werken.
Ze vertelt me dat ze ooit kinderen wil. Hoe vaker een slap handje echter, hoe groter het risico op ongediciplineerd kroost. Een goed moment om het onderwerp op veiliger werken te brengen. Onmogelijk in haar branche, volgens haar. Ik opper voorzichtig of een baan als receptioniste een alternatief zou zijn. Ontdaan kijkt ze me aan. „Receptioniste? Maar ik ben toch zeker niet blond?!”

Jammerende Jurk

Op hun achttiende mogen Amerikanen het leger in. Dan mogen ze de geweldige voordelen van democratie verspreiden over de wereld… in Irak en Afghanistan enzo.
En als de soldaten weer thuis zijn? “Sorry kerel, ik weet dat je een arm hebt verloren in Irak maar ik zal toch je bier moeten confisceren.”
Amerikanen hebben de strengste alcohol-wetgeving ter wereld. Op Saoedie-Arabie na dan. Legaal mag je pas alcohol drinken op je 21ste. Autorijden op je 15de overigens. En Nederland heeft een van de relaxste wetgeving op dat gebied, aldus dit artikel in UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) Kaleidoscoop. Toch heeft Amerika meer alcoholische tieners dan Nederland.

Op WeltOnline een discussie tussen de Duitse minister van Binnenlandse Zaken Wolfgang Schäuble en de Nederlandse socioloog en schrijver Paul Scheffer. Aanleiding is Scheffer’s boek: ‘Die Eingewanderten. Toleranz in einer grenzenlosen Welt’. De conservatieve CDU-er is positief over de integratie van immigranten en de sociaal democraat Scheffer sceptisch.

On Saturday, a user on Facebook posted a poll asking, “Should Obama be killed?” The blogger GottaLaff spotted the poll yesterday and called the Secret Service, which has now launched an investigation. “We are aware of [the poll], and we will take the appropriate investigative steps,” said Darrin Blackford, a Secret Service spokesman. “We take these things seriously.” Facebook has taken down the offensive poll and disabled the third-party application that was used to create it.

Hate radio host Rush Limbaugh recently cast a fight between three Belleville, IL schoolchildren — the two attackers were black and the victim was white — as what happens to “white kids” in “Obama’s America.” Even though police said the bus fight was not racially motivated, Limbaugh insisted, “We need segregated buses.” On Saturday, members of white supremacist groups marched in Belleville holding signs echoing Limbaugh’s rhetoric that said, “It was a hate crime“:

While a police sniper watched from the roof of the police station, 22 members of white supremacist groups, shouted obscenities and made obscene hand gestures. One man, who had a crew cut and wore a black uniform, told the crowd of onlookers, “Wake up white America!”
“We were out there to denounce the violence,” said Belleville resident Jason Bonn, who is a corporal with the National Socialist Movement, a group with a name similar to the Nazi Party of Germany during World War II. Bonn’s group is “fighting for white civil rights.”

President Obama at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation dinner last night, discussing false claims made about the health care reform bill, told a little anecdote.
“I was up at the G20 — just a little aside — I was up at the G20, and some of you saw those big flags and all the world leaders come in and Michelle and I are shaking hands with them,” the president said. “One of the leaders — I won’t mention who it was — he comes up to me. We take the picture, we go behind.”
“He says, ‘Barack, explain to me this health care debate. We don’t understand it. You’re trying to make sure everybody has health care and they’re putting a Hitler mustache on you — I don’t — that doesn’t make sense to me. Explain that to me.’”
Asked who this was, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs would say only “a world leader.”

Een Chinese collega van mijn man is voor een jaar in Nederland.
Zijn vrouw komt na een halfjaar over. Wij laten ze Volendam zien, eten gerookte paling, en ’s avonds nemen we ze mee naar een Frans restaurant. Gelegen aan de gracht.
Frans eten is ze onbekend dus we nemen de menukaart uitgebreid door. Alles in het Engels.
De restauranthoudster beveelt de eendenborst aan en schept erover op dat de eenden altijd zeer vers zijn. Ze doet er nog een schepje bovenop door te beweren dat ze ze zojuist zelf heeft gevangen in de gracht. De heren komen al gauw tot een besluit: eendenborst zal het zijn.
Mijn Chinese buurvrouw – die de hele tijd nogal stilletjes voor zich uit heeft zitten kijken - roept plotseling verschrikt uit: “But we never eat dog!”
