Iedereen in Israel vindt het een goede straf.

Perfect punishment for Dutch teen’s anti-Jewish slur

Jewish Chronicle - A teenager whose offensive comments about Jews were published online has been given a particularly fitting punishment.
The Dutch 18-year-old, referred to as Omar E. in court, has been sentenced to community service at the Holocaust hiding place of Jewish diarist Anne Frank.
He had told the website GeenStijl that he believed Jewish people should be exterminated.

Blood libel (also blood accusation) refers to a false accusation or claim that religious minorities, almost always Jews, murder children to use their blood in certain aspects of their religious rituals and holidays. Historically, these claims have–alongside those of well poisoning and host desecration - been a major theme in European persecution of Jews.

The libels typically allege that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos for Passover. The accusations often assert that the blood of Christian children is especially coveted, and historically blood libel claims have often been made to account for otherwise unexplained deaths of children. In some cases, the alleged victim of human sacrifice has become venerated as a martyr, a holy figure around whom a martyr cult might arise. A few of these have been even canonized as saints.

Finally, the real victim of the Tucson tragedy speaks up.

In a scathing Facebook post and web-video tirade, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin accused the media of “blood libel” against her for mentioning her infamous cross-hair map in the wake of the shooting in Tucson. Palin called journalists and pundits’ focus on her “reprehensible,” and said it “serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn.”

National Jewish Democratic Council: “Instead of dialing down the rhetoric at this difficult moment, Sarah Palin chose to accuse others trying to sort out the meaning of this tragedy of somehow engaging in a “blood libel” against her and others.
This is of course a particularly heinous term for American Jews, given that the repeated fiction of blood libels are directly responsible for the murder of so many Jews across centuries — and given that blood libels are so directly intertwined with deeply ingrained anti-Semitism around the globe, even today.”

Al Jazeera - The Dutch foreign minister has called on Iran to provide details of the case of a Dutch-Iranian woman whose daughter says that she has been sentenced to death for drug smuggling.

Het doodvonnis voor drugssmokkel van de Nederlands-Iraanse Zahra Bahrami is vandaag bevestigd door haar advocaat. Bahrami werd in 2009 opgepakt tijdens een demonstratie in Bagdad tijdens familiebezoek in Iran. Ze heeft enkele maanden in isolatie gezeten en zou zijn mishandeld. Hoewel ze een Nederlands paspoort heeft, kan de ambassade in Iran haar geen consulaire bijstand verlenen. Dat omdat Iran niet de Nederlandse nationaliteit van vertrokken onderdanen erkent.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali moet oppassen. Ze komt uit Somalie, is vast wel eens in Jemen geweest en ze werkt voor het rechtse neoconservatieve American Enerprise Institute waar Dick Cheney kind aan huis is. Dus van martelen weten ze daar alles.
Glenn Greenwald geeft een excellent voorbeeld van hoe je er zorg voor kunt dragen dat iemand de Verenigde Staten van Amerika gaat haten. Een achttienjarige Amerikaan, wiens grootste fout lijkt te zijn dat hij Mohamed heet, is opgepakt en twee weken gemarteld in het Amerikaanse protectoraat Kuweit. De reden is dat hij, zoals veel jong volwassenen graag doen, op familiebezoek is geweest. Jammer genoeg voor hem woont zijn familie in Kuweit, Somalie en Jemen.
Het is uiterst onwaarschijnlijk dat deze jongen is gemarteld buiten medeweten van de Amerikaanse regering die de plicht heeft haar eigen burgers te beschermen.
Greenwald heeft met de jongen gepraat.

American teenager tortured in Kuwait and barred from re-entry in the U.S.

Gulet Mohamed is an 18-year-old American citizen whose family is Somalian. His parents moved with him to the U.S. when he was 2 or 3 years old, and he has lived in the U.S. ever since. In March, 2009, he went to study Arabic and Islam in Yemen (in Sana’a, the nation’s capital), and, after several weeks, left (at his mother’s urging) and went to visit his mother’s family in Somalia, staying with his uncle there for several months. Roughly one year ago, he left Somalia and traveled to Kuwait to stay with other family members who live there. Like many teenagers who reach early adulthood, he was motivated in his travels by a desire to see the world, to study, and to get to know his family’s ancestral homeland and his faraway relatives.

Goed nieuws. Nederlandse moslims gaan de handen uit de mouwen steken in de strijd tegen terroristen door de Koptische kerken in Nederland te beschermen. Geweldig dus. Ik vraag me wel af of ze de wapens hebben om de Kopten te beschermen. Anders is het misschien een idee voor de overheid om die te verstrekken aan deze goedwillende moslims?

Voor al die Koptische Christenen die drasties bezoeken: pas op 7 januari.
Drie Nederlandse koptische orthodoxe kerken worden genoemd op een lijst van al-Qaeda als doelwit voor een bomaanslag. Het betreft kerken in Eindhoven, Utrecht en Amsterdam. Ze staan met tientallen andere koptische kerken in Egypte en Europa op de website Shumukh al-Islam.
Aha, Islam, the religion of peace.
Shumukh al-Islam roept op om bomaanslagen te plegen op kerken tijdens de koptische Kerstmis, 7 januari. Ook de al-Qissiddinkerk in Alexandrië, waar zaterdag 21 mensen om het leven kwamen bij een bomaanslag, stond op de lijst.

Het is een moderne kerstvertelling, en een hulde aan de Grote Schrijver die van ons heen is gegaan.
De gebogen sleutel zegt al dat de ware betekenis van het verhaal zich niet eenvoudig openbaart. De Zweedse auto is een leuke knipoog naar de herkomst van de Kerstman, maar Saab (Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget) duidt direct op het hemelse verblijf.
Het Ikje vertelt dat de Zoon (die op aarde rijdt, terwijl Vader in de Hemel verkeert, maar ik hoe hier niet alles uit te leggen) niet meer in beweging gebracht kan worden (men gelooft niet meer) Het zwart symboliseert de donkerte die dat met zich brengt, het tijdstip (december) de kilte, en de gladheid de richtingsloosheid.

Wat nu te doen? Een veilige haven: de parkeerplaats aan gene zijde (de overkant) Hup, daar laat Maria (=Marike) de Drie Koningen (=Konings) opdraven. En waar zetten zij hem neer: bij het Mortuarium! Een indirecte verwijzing naar Pasen.
De schoonzus suggereert hem daar te laten: Satan, het kwaad!
Met de ondertekening Marike Konings biedt de NRC de literaire, gebogen sleutel, maar het is natuurlijk een eerbetoon van hen aan Harry Mulisch die op 2e kerstdag 58 dagen is overleden (= precies het gemiddelde aantal tekens in de 10 zinnen)

I mean, Obama being a muslim himself, and all of that. Now a year after the failed terrorist attempt on Christmas Day for which the president got massive criticism from the right, a key Bush intelligence official refuted these right-wing attacks. America is in a constant fight against all evil. Not only elsewhere in the world but also at home, for example in Easton, Pennsylvania. There two girls, Brianna Hawk, 13, and Kayla Martinez, 12, wore bracelets to school on October 28, with the text: I love boobies.
Mind you, with the support of their parents. Maybe because it was Breastcancer Awareness Day in their school.
And then… all hell broke loose.
The bracelets were banned and the girls were suspended a day-and-a-half from school for “defiance/disruption/disrespect” and they were forbidden from attending the big middle school dance.

I love Boobies - The Keep A Breast Foundation’s mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support.

And, being America, of course they all ended up in court. There the brave school district lawyer John E. Freund III had the task of interrogating the two dirty girls.

“That phrase, ‘I Love Boobies,’ do you see any other meaning to that? Say especially from boys’ perspective?” Freund asked 13-year-old Brianna Hawk.
“No.” Hawk said.
“Do you thinks boys would have a natural attraction to girls breasts?” Freund asked.
“Yes,” Hawk said.
“So couldn’t it possibly mean something else?”
“No,” insisted Hawk, because in the context of the bracelet that simply was not possible, she said.
Kayla Martinez, 12, conceded some boys could behave in a less than mature fashion. “But they”, she said dismissively, “are boys who act like they are two.”

Easton (PA) Doesn’t ♥ Boobies or Free Speech

At Easton Area Middle School, they choose to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as a special awareness day on October 28, at which point all hell broke loose. See, teachers had seen See, teachers had seen “I ♥ Boobies!” bracelets floating around, and “though the bracelets had yet to cause a disruption, schooldirector DiVietro said, teachers warned that they might in the future.”

American military commanders in Afghanistan are asking for expanded military campaigns inside Pakistan to fight Islamic extremists and Al Qaeda there, the New York Times reports. American forces have been largely prohibited from operations inside Pakistan for fear of a backlash, but the new proposal reflects the growing frustration in the army with Pakistans efforts to root out militants there.

ZeeNews, Islamabad - A song that delves into the “will-she”, “won’t she” suspense of dating a burqa-clad woman is rubbing a lot of Pakistanis the wrong way.
