Het jaar 2011 ga ik goed beginnen. Mijn darmen zijn dit jaar aan de beurt.
Daarom ben in de Yakult gegaan. Vorige week heb ik mijn persoonlijke Yakult ontmoet. Het was of de wereld stil stond. Of ik door de bliksem werd getroffen..
Yakult vind je overal. Zelfs bij de supermarkt. Ergens verborgen tussen de vele zuivelgeneugten op de yoghurtboulevard kom je hem tegen. Je kunt hem niet missen. Mits je een vergrootglas hebt dat 900 keer vergroot. Eventueel kan een verrekijker ook, maar dan moet je wel zeker weten dat je je maximaal op 34 centimeter afstand van Yakult bevindt. Ook een stevige bril met een sterkte van -24 kan uitkomst bieden.
Yakult!
Je komt er niet meer onderuit tegenwoordig. Je hebt het nodig voor je darmen, waar het immuumsysteem zit. Die hebben goede bacterien nodig. En die zitten in Yakult.
Vandaar dat die flesjes van Yakult zo klein zijn. Dat zijn bacterien ook, die hebben weinig ruimte nodig.
Dus nou niet gaan zeuren van: Ja, kut! waarom gebruiken ze geen cilinders ter grootte van een kolenhok om Yakult in te doen. Dat is helemaal niet nodig.Yakult is er voor jou als je hem nodig hebt. (psalm 3, etiket 9, nieuwe receptement)

Hehe, eindelijk, na de aanslag op Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) door een gestoorde jongeman met een semi-automatisch geweer, denkt iedereen in de VS mee over hoe het geweld in te dammen dat dagelijks door de straten van Amerika trekt.
William Galston van denktank het Brooking Institute (tegenwoordig vooral bevolkt door ‘Bush-men’) heeft de oplossing.
Zoveel mogelijk wapens uit de handen van mensen houden, verwacht je dan, op zijn minst uit de handen van gekken. Nou nee, dat is niet de oplossing die deze grote denker voorstelt. Hij stelt voor om iedereen die zich raar gedraagt op te sluiten. En ook mensen die niet rapporteren dat iemand zich raar gedraagt - familie en vrienden bijvoorbeeld. Zijn argumentatie is simpel, de Tucson-killer gedroeg zich raar, dus sluit alle mensen op die raar doen. Ook al hebben ze geen misdaad begaan.
Je staat er echt van te kijken in wat voor rare bochten Amerikanen zich wringen om maar niet te zeggen wat ieder normaal mens weet. Houdt dodelijke wapens uit de handen van burgers. Als in Nederland iemand gek wordt van woede, gebruikt hij zijn vuisten of hij pakt een knuppel of in het ergste geval een mes maar geen semi-automatisch geweer. Dat heeft hij niet, en zijn buren en zijn vrienden evenmin.
Ook Glenn Greenwald windt zich er over op.

De kans om in een ziekenhuis in Nederland een resistente MRSA bacterie op te lopen is twintig maal kleiner dan in Duitsland. De manier waarop Nederland omgaat met anti-biotica en de strijd tegen MRSA is een voorbeeld.

Vorbildliche Niederlande

RPOnline - Eines der größten Hygieneprobleme stellen gegen Antibiotika resistente Erreger vom Typ Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) dar. Neben Deutschland haben auch die USA, Japan und Großbritannien verstärkt mit ihnen zu kämpfen. Im Gegensatz dazu kommen diese Stämme laut Mikrobiologen in den Niederlanden und Skandinavien so gut wie nicht vor. Die Rate an MRSA-Infektionen in Deutschland ist etwa 20-mal so hoch wie in den Niederlanden.
Ein Grund liegt laut Alexander Friedrich vom Institut für Hygiene an der Universität Münster darin, dass Antibiotika in diesen Ländern seltener verschrieben würden. Resistenzen könnten sich daher nicht so leicht herausbilden. Zudem würde gegen die Keime in niederländischen Krankenhäusern strikter vorgegangen.
Die niederländische MRSA-Bekämpfung gilt als vorbildlich.

Gisteren werd de Democratische vertegenwoordiger van het Amerikaanse Congress, Gabrielle Giffords, neergeschoten door een 22-jarige man die ook op twintig andere mensen schoot waarbij hij zes doodde. De verdachte is Jared Lee Loughner - in de VS lezen ze wel de rechten voor maar gebruiken ze geen initialen. Op het internet hield hij scheldpartijen tegen de Amerikaanse overheid.
De Politieke Actie Commissie (PAC) van Sarah Palin had tot gisteren een kaart op haar website staan waarin het vizier van een geweer stond gericht op het district van de Congresswoman. Dat omdat ze voor betaalbare gezondheidszorg heeft gestemd voor iedereen. Palin noemde dat een stem voor ‘deathpanels’. Eerder werd het hoofdkwartier van Giffords gevandaliseerd en stafleden van haar aangevallen. Giffords zelf waarschuwde vorig jaar dat het richten van een vizier conseqeunties zou kunnen hebben.
Nu vecht ze voor haar leven na een schot door het hoofd.
Hoe reageert de Republikein Lamar Alexander op een vraag van CNN-reporter Candy Crowley over Palin’s afbeelding op haar website?

CROWLEY: Was it over the line, sort of specifically, since it’s now being talked about everywhere, with Sarah Palin’s web ads about people that she would like to see targeted for political defeat.

The lone 22 year old guman shot dead at least six people at an event organised by Giffords, the Democrat who was on the targetlist of the Tea Party and Sarah Palin. The targetlist?

Sarah Palin’s PAC posted a map with gun cross-hairs [vizier - JdeW] over the districts of several Democrats who voted for health care reform, including Giffords.
The Democratic Congresswoman has been shot, so the message is not necessary anymore. That must be why Sarah Palin decided to take the page down today. A screenshot is here.
Tea Party favorite Sarah Palin designated Congresswoman Giffords a target because she voted for the deathpanels. That is - in the language of the Tea Party, Fox News and Glenn Beck. For normal people - Giffords voted for affordable healthcare for less priviliged Americans.

Palins was not alone in targeting Giffords with pictures of guns. She was followed by Giffords’ opponent in the recent election for the House. Teabagger Jesse Kelly held a campaign event last year where participants were invited to shoot an automatic weapon with him, which was advertised like this: “get on target for victory in November help remove Gabrielle Giffords from office.”

Days after a number of dead birds appeared to fall from the sky in America a similar event has happened in Sweden. Tests are being carried out in a bid to find out what happened. Shortly before midnight on Tuesday, residents of Falkping, southeast of Skvde in southern Sweden, found 50 to 100 jackdaws lying in the street.

If the Dutch government carries out its intention of closing down all coffee shops located within 350 meters of a school, six out of ten of these cannabis selling establishments will have to go. That according to a survey by newspaper NRC Handelsblad, a newspaper well known in the Netherlands for it’s relentless investigative journalism.
The newspaper used a walking distance of 350 metres as the basis for its calculations. However, if the cabinet were to use a straight line as the basis for its calculations, the number of coffee shops facing closure would even be higher. In Amsterdam alone 187 of the current 223 coffee shops would have to close.

Nu besteedt ook het blog Huffington Post aandacht aan het stuk in de New York Times over het fenomeen dat zoveel mensen in Nederland, vooral vrouwen maar ook mannen, er de voorkeur aan geven om parttime te werken.

Nederlanders hebben uitgevonden, aldus de Huffington Post, dat parttime en flexibel werken de mensen productiever maakt. Kortom: het is ook goed voor de onderneming. En misschien is het ook een idee voor de Amerikaanse experts zich eens te verdiepen in het fenomeen dat tevreden mensen productiever zijn. En neem dan ook mee dat gezonde mensen productiever zijn. Want als er een opvallend aspect is aan het leven in Amerika, is het wel hoe krankzinnig hard de meeste mensen daar werken.

There has been a long time study of changes in eating patterns in America.
Here the remarkable results that founder and director of the NPD Group’s annual Eating Patterns in America, Harry Balzer, found:

“In the long run,” he says, “the top three foods we ordered in 1978, when I first started — were (in order) carbonated soft drinks, french fries and hamburgers.
“And yesterday, the top three foods we ordered at restaurants were carbonated soft drinks, hamburgers and french fries. … We’ve changed so much!” he joked.

Handbikester Monique van der Vorst werd afgelopen winter tijdens een trainingskamp aangereden en kon toen ineens weer lopen. Vorig jaar werd ze nog gekozen tot de Gehandicapte Sporter van het jaar en kreeg ze een Jaap Eden-beeldje.
Van der Vorst (26) moet wennen aan haar nieuwe leven. Ze heeft gehuild van geluk en opwinding. Aan de andere kant is ze nu ineens geen topsporter meer, want ze valt niet meer onder de gehandicapten. Ze was de beste handbikester van de wereld en had dat in 2012 met goud op de Paralympics willen bekrachtigen. ,,Ik ben mijn doel, mijn passie kwijt. Ik was gewend strak te leven, altijd de grenzen op te zoeken en mezelf te verbeteren. Trainingskampen, wedstrijden, contact met andere sporters, ondanks dat ik in een rolstoel zat, had ik een superleven. Ik kon alles doen. Natuurlijk heb ik er iets mooiers voor teruggekregen,” stelt ze. “Ik kan opstaan, lopen, mensen weer recht in de ogen kijken. Dat is nog elke dag een onbeschrijflijk gevoel.”

Tea Party politician Andy Harris was elected by enraged American voters to the House in november to continue his fight against the socialist Obama administration. And of course key in his fight was repealing the Health Care Bill Obama managed to get through Congress.
After being elected the teabagger expected to become the leader of the committee which has jurisdiction over public health issues. But he didn’t become president of the Energy and Commerce Committee. In fact, he’s won’t even get to be a member of that committee.
Why? Could it be because of this?

WASHINGTON — Rep.-elect Andy Harris, who campaigned on an anti-Obamacare platform, made news last month when he asked during a freshman orientation class why it would take so long for his government health insurance to kick in. The question, first reported by Politico, has become a running joke here, with David Waldman of the liberal Congress Matters website keeping a daily countdown of how many days Harris must wait “for his sweet, sweet government health care.”
Reigrut said he doubts the negative publicity affected Harris’ chances of getting on the Energy and Commerce Committee, citing the high number of incoming Republican freshmen as a more likely reason.

Dutch Fund helps injured kittens

Geneseo, Illinois - Four kittens are on the mend thanks to medical care provided by the Dutch Memorial Fund.
Funds were used by the Henry County Humane Society’s Geneseo Chapter to pay for amputations for two cats and eye removals for two others. “The Dutch Fund made all the difference in the world for these kittens,” said humane society volunteer Cindy Avey.
A Dutch Memorial Fund was established in April after a cat, dubbed “Dutch,” was found tortured and nailed to a utility pole in rural Geneseo.

The most famous long distance skating race in the world is the Eleven Cities Race in Friesland, the Netherlands. De Elfstedentocht! It is a dangerous adventure and people are advised not to try and take part in this event over two hundred kilometers in the northern, still partly unexplored, part of the Netherlands.
Many people have lost their lives trying to finish that race.
Some died of exhaustion, some drowned when they didnt see a wak, some lost their way in the barren lands and where never seen again, some just lost the will to live after realising they were not gonna be there in time to get their Elfstedenkruisje.
This year the chance that it will be held looks pretty good. It’s freezing out there. Having skated just 80 kilometers long distance myself once, JdeW once more urges everyone to stay away as far as possible from Friesland and the Elfstedentocht.

How difficult is it?
That depends a lot on the weather conditions. In 1909, the winner Minne Hoekstra took almost 14 hours to cover the distance, in 1997 Henk Angenent just took seven hours. Experts say 1963 was the most difficult race. It was minus 18 degrees Celsius. Only 69 skaters out of 10,000 made it to the finish: the worst ever result in the history of the race. The title of a recent film on the Tour that year says it all, it is called ‘The hell of `63’

Ik heb op een schaakclub gespeeld waar altijd rond een uur of elf een clublid binnenstapte die alleen nog maar kon zeuren en klagen. Hij speelde zelf niet meer, bang om te verliezen, maar dat compenseerde hij dus met dat eeuwige gezeur. Hij viel ook altijd in herhaling, altijd hetzelfde. Iedereen had een hekel aan die man. Onlangs is hij overleden, een hersentumor. Het is gek maar ik heb nu toch wel spijt dat ik niet aardiger tegen die man ben geweest.
DSR… Zullen we eens samen een gezellig biertje gaan drinken?

America is in a constant fight against all evil. Not only elsewhere in the world but also at home, for example in Easton, Pennsylvania. There two girls, Brianna Hawk, 13, and Kayla Martinez, 12, wore bracelets to school on October 28, with the text: I love boobies.
Mind you, with the support of their parents. Maybe because it was Breastcancer Awareness Day in their school.
And then… all hell broke loose.
The bracelets were banned and the girls were suspended a day-and-a-half from school for “defiance/disruption/disrespect” and they were forbidden from attending the big middle school dance.

I love Boobies - The Keep A Breast Foundation’s mission is to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support.

And, being America, of course they all ended up in court. There the brave school district lawyer John E. Freund III had the task of interrogating the two dirty girls.

“That phrase, ‘I Love Boobies,’ do you see any other meaning to that? Say especially from boys’ perspective?” Freund asked 13-year-old Brianna Hawk.
“No.” Hawk said.
“Do you thinks boys would have a natural attraction to girls breasts?” Freund asked.
“Yes,” Hawk said.
“So couldn’t it possibly mean something else?”
“No,” insisted Hawk, because in the context of the bracelet that simply was not possible, she said.
Kayla Martinez, 12, conceded some boys could behave in a less than mature fashion. “But they”, she said dismissively, “are boys who act like they are two.”

Easton (PA) Doesn’t ♥ Boobies or Free Speech

At Easton Area Middle School, they choose to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month as well as a special awareness day on October 28, at which point all hell broke loose. See, teachers had seen See, teachers had seen “I ♥ Boobies!” bracelets floating around, and “though the bracelets had yet to cause a disruption, schooldirector DiVietro said, teachers warned that they might in the future.”

Hoeveel ouder? Daarover zijn de geleerden het niet eens.
Mensen die nu 65 jaar oud zijn, hebben nog 17,6 jaar (mannen) of 20,8 jaar (vrouwen) te gaan. Anderen denken weer dat mannen van 65 gemiddeld 84 jaar worden en vrouwen 87 jaar. Maar zeker is, we worden net zo lang ouder tot we doodgaan.

IPE, Netherlands – Statistics Netherlands (CBS) has estimated a less drastic increase in longevity for the Dutch population than previously forecast by the Actuarial Society (AG). The new prognosis suggests that men and women aged 65 in 2010 will live an additional 17.6 and 20.8 years respectively.
However, the CBS admitted that the method employed to calculate these figures usually underestimated the real life expectancy.
