Dutch football players are hot. They are doing very well for their employers worldwide like Tottenham,Bayern and Inter. All players who have been discarded by Real Madrid the summer prior.
Why, asks Leander Schaerlaeckens, in his blog on ESPN, why are they doing so well. He thinks is arrogance. Mind you, he is Dutch himself.
Tottenham attacking midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has had a huge hand in Spurs’ success, with eight goals in 13 league games so far this season.
Last year, winger Arjen Robben scored 20 goals for Bayern Munich across the Bundesliga and Champions League. At the same time, playmaker Wesley Sneijder was the crucial cog in Inter Milan’s victory march to the Treble, winning the Champions League, the Italian league and the Italian Cup.

Handbikester Monique van der Vorst werd afgelopen winter tijdens een trainingskamp aangereden en kon toen ineens weer lopen. Vorig jaar werd ze nog gekozen tot de Gehandicapte Sporter van het jaar en kreeg ze een Jaap Eden-beeldje.
Van der Vorst (26) moet wennen aan haar nieuwe leven. Ze heeft gehuild van geluk en opwinding. Aan de andere kant is ze nu ineens geen topsporter meer, want ze valt niet meer onder de gehandicapten. Ze was de beste handbikester van de wereld en had dat in 2012 met goud op de Paralympics willen bekrachtigen. ,,Ik ben mijn doel, mijn passie kwijt. Ik was gewend strak te leven, altijd de grenzen op te zoeken en mezelf te verbeteren. Trainingskampen, wedstrijden, contact met andere sporters, ondanks dat ik in een rolstoel zat, had ik een superleven. Ik kon alles doen. Natuurlijk heb ik er iets mooiers voor teruggekregen,” stelt ze. “Ik kan opstaan, lopen, mensen weer recht in de ogen kijken. Dat is nog elke dag een onbeschrijflijk gevoel.”

The most famous long distance skating race in the world is the Eleven Cities Race in Friesland, the Netherlands. De Elfstedentocht! It is a dangerous adventure and people are advised not to try and take part in this event over two hundred kilometers in the northern, still partly unexplored, part of the Netherlands.
Many people have lost their lives trying to finish that race.
Some died of exhaustion, some drowned when they didnt see a wak, some lost their way in the barren lands and where never seen again, some just lost the will to live after realising they were not gonna be there in time to get their Elfstedenkruisje.
This year the chance that it will be held looks pretty good. It’s freezing out there. Having skated just 80 kilometers long distance myself once, JdeW once more urges everyone to stay away as far as possible from Friesland and the Elfstedentocht.
How difficult is it? That depends a lot on the weather conditions. In 1909, the winner Minne Hoekstra took almost 14 hours to cover the distance, in 1997 Henk Angenent just took seven hours. Experts say 1963 was the most difficult race. It was minus 18 degrees Celsius. Only 69 skaters out of 10,000 made it to the finish: the worst ever result in the history of the race. The title of a recent film on the Tour that year says it all, it is called ‘The hell of `63’

Bavaria mag de naam Bavaria houden. Jammer dat het bier niet te drinken is, want wat timmert die zaak geweldig aan de weg. Eerder werden ze bij het wereldkamioenschap voetbal in Zuid-Afrika al wereldkampioen sponsoring. En nu draaien ze de Bavarian Brauerbund weer een loer.
Warum die bayerischen Brauer überhaupt so stur sind, scheint rätselhaft. Schließlich verwenden die Niederländer die Bezeichnung für ihr Bier schon seit 1925.
Zudem ist die Liebe der Niederländer zum bayerischen Bier schon viel früher urkundlich erwähnt: Bereits 1897 wurde in Hamburg-Altona die „Bavaria Brauerei AG“ gegründet. Als ihr Urvater gilt der Niederländer Peter I. de Voss, der bereits 1647 in Altona Bier braute. Das letzte Werk der späteren Bavaria- St. Pauli-Brauerei wurde 2003 geschlossen. Hätten die Bayern doch einfach auf den freien Markt vertraut. Helmut Moller, Inhaber des Bier-Spezialitäten-Ladens in der Berliner Karl-Marx-Allee, der Hunderte Biere im Sortiment hat, sagte am Mittwoch als Reaktion: „Bavaria aus Holland? Kenn’ ich. Führ ich aber nicht. Aus Prinzip nicht. Das schmeckt viel zu wässrig.“

En weer wordt een talentvolle jeugdvoetballer uit Nederland weggelokt door het grote geld. De vijftienjarige Nathan Ake gaat van de jeugdopleiding van Feyenoord naar Chelsea. Het is zowiezo al moeilijk om een beetje goed voetbal in Nederland te houden maar zo wordt het natuurlijk volstrekt onmogelijk. Gelukkig is Leo Beenhakker directeur van Feyenoord. Laat het maar aan Leo over om dit schandaal onder de aandacht te brengen van de wereld.
Engelse clubs zijn de Grote Witte Haaien van het voetbal.
Chelsea are at the centre of another international transfer storm after luring promising teenager Nathan Ake away from Feyenoord, leaving the furious Dutch club calling them “the great white sharks of football”.
Premier League champions Chelsea have agreed to sign the highly rated Ake, who will be 16 in February, before Feyenoord had a chance to offer him a professional contract.

Ik had nooit van hem gehoord. Van deze man genaamd Jacob ‘Dutch’ Grobbe die gisteren op 85-jarige leeftijd is overleden in Nederland. Hij werd beroemd in de Verenigde Staten als worstelaar vooral onder de naam Hans Mortier, zogenaamd een Duitser. Hij verbleef overigens jarenlang illegaal in de VS. Hij was ook bekend als Dutch Howlett,Tarzan Zorro, The Great Zorro en LordCharles Montague. Wat een leven!

Born January 28, 1924 in Leiden, Netherlands, Grobbe learned amateur wrestling as a pre-teen, and it was then that he started to develop one of the best bodies in wrestling. Over time, he would grow into a 6-foot-3, 255-pound headliner. One of his noted tricks was his ability to roll his stomach.

Zou de FIFA daar bij hebben stilgestaan toen de internationale voetbalbond het Wereldkampioenschap Voetbal in 2022 aan Qatar toewees?
Niet alleen is het gebruik van alcohol beperkt in het feodale moslimstaatje en is het er snikheet. Ook worden vrouwen gediscrimineerd en is homosexualiteit strafbaar.
Fijn voor de fans dus.
Misschien een goed moment voor homosexuele voetballers om wereldwijd uit de kast te komen. Ik gok op Messi!

Phapaya - a Thai girl working in Dubai (1) - loved to go to yoga when she was working in Bangkok. Finally she found an affordable place offering yoga in Dubai.
When I arrived in Dubai I tried to search for any yoga class because I wanted to keep practicing at least few hours a week. But there didn’t seem to be a class for an affordable price for me. So I gave up!!!
Then one day my Philippine friend who is working in the admin section at my office turned up and told me she found a cheap yoga class. Only AED 30 per 1.30 hours per class.
It seemed quite a good deal. The class took place at the 7th floor in Flora Grand Hotel in Deira city not far from my office. Without hesitating I called the hotel and made a booking for the class.
I left office early and arrived at the place twenty minutes before the start of class. The receptionist showed me the gym, steam room, and shower room for ladies. Than we entered the room. I was disappointed to see how small it was. In fact, it was a dining room. The dining table was still there, so we had to put it at the side to create space where we could do our exercise.
Furthermore I could still smell the aroma of food in the room. It didn’t seem at all that the people giving this class made an effort to teach yoga seriously. That feeling became stronger when the teacher treated us like children in a primary school. He made it look like physical education. Not like yoga where mind and body are equally important.
I understand things are different in Dubai. Still I was so disappointed, not so much because it was different, but because I saw no attention to detail, no real joy in the teacher and no real love for yoga.
I never went to that class again.
Ajax Amsterdam have put aside the loss of manager Martin Jol during the week to defeat AC Milan 2-0 at the San Siro. The win enabled the Dutch club to qualify for the Europa League and gave them plenty of hope for the season ahead.
Demy De Zeeuw put them ahead three minutes prior to the hour-mark when he beat Milan keeper Marco Amelia after following up a blocked shot before Toby Alderweireld made it 2-0 nine minutes later.
Amsterdam moved clear of AJ Auxerre to grab third spot and despite the loss, Milan remained second to move through to the next phase behind Real Madrid.

Onderstaande muts werd gedragen door Kees Broekman. De katoenen muts is handwerk en zwart/blauw met rood wit zwart/blauw strepen. Wie hem heeft gemaakt is onbekend. De muts is tentoongesteld in het Schaatsmuseum te Hindeloopen.

Gelkhinge: Een veel jongere collega van me kwam binnen met zo’n schaatsmutsje op, maar dan voornamelijk uitgevoerd in groen. Die muts kreeg hij van zijn opa, vertelde hij.
Zulke mutsjes waren in de mode in de tijd van Ard & Keessie, midden jaren zestig. Ze hebben een puntje op het voorhoofd en vleugeltjes die je over je oren kon trekken, maar ook wel kon opklappen, wat een nastrevenswaardig nonchalant effect gaf, waar menige jongeman desnoods bevroren oren voor over had.
Tegen die collega zei ik dat ik er zelf ook nog zoeen had gehad als acht à twaalfjarige jongen. En riep: “Per Ivar Moe!”
Nu zijn er decennia voorbij gegaan zonder dat ik ooit aan Per Ivar Moe heb gedacht, sorry, maar ik wist nog wel dat hij goed was op de 5000 meter. (more…)
Volgens Ruud Lulgit is het allerbelangrijkste van de WK-stemming dat we de Engelsen hebben verslagen. “We hebben brons!”
De favoriete Engelsen kregen bij de eerste stemming slechts twee van de 22 stemmen, Nederland/België vier. Bij de tweede stemming kregen we twee stemmen. Een was van de Belg d’Hooghe. Bent u ook zo benieuwd welke andere gek op Nederland heeft gestemd?
Commentaar van Ruud Lulgit: “De Bavaria meisjes hebben ons de das om gedaan. De FIFA bang dat er met Nederland niet genoeg verdiend zou worden. Nederland stelde niet de belangen van bobo’s en sponsors voorop maar die van de sporters.” Johan Cruijff heeft opgeroepen om ‘met haastige spoed onmiddelijk’ de hele Nederlandse WK-organisatie naar huis te sturen. Ruud Lulgit: “Dit is niet het moment om overhaaste beslissingen te nemen.”
Morgen weten we dus of Nederland het voetbaltuig uit de hele wereld op bezoek gaat krijgen. En ik doel hierbij niet op de Belgen met wie we proberen de Wereldkampioenschappen Voetbal 2018 binnen te halen.
Voor mensen die het zien zitten, wijs ik graag even op deze zeer geruststellende uitspraak van Ruud Lulgit, de man die het WK voor ons gaat binnenhalen en tevens vaste drasties medewerker.
Het kan dus. Geweldig om te weten dat al die heisa niet helemaal voor niets is geweest.
Ruud Gullit has urged England not to underestimate Holland’s joint World Cup bid with Belgium, as fears grew that the rank outsiders for 2018 may end up being more than just also-rans.

Fewer than two in ten Americans think they are at their ideal weight. About one in ten Americans think they are under their ideal weight.
On average Americans report that they weigh 177 pounds, but would like to weigh 161. For Europeans: 177 pounds is 80,2 kilo’s.
So let’s add two kilo’s for the real weight and we can conclude that an average American weighs 82,2 kilo’s.

Nu maar duimen dat we niet bij Turkije in de poule komen want dan loopt het alsnog mis. Want tegen Allah kan Jezus Christus natuurlijk niet op. Iedereen weet dat moslims veel vaker en veel harder bidden dan christenen. Ook al heet onze christen dan Joop van Ooijen.
Jezus redt, is gered! ‘Dakevangelist’ Joop van Ooijen en de gemeente Giessenlanden hebben de strijdbijl rond het conflict over de daktekst Jezus redt definitief begraven. De tekst op het dak van de boerderij van Van Ooijen mag blijven staan, maar wordt kleiner en de geverfde dakpannen worden vervangen door traditionele oranje pannen.
De daktekst was de gemeente jarenlang een doorn in het oog. Het conflict leidde onder meer tot een gang naar de Raad van State en de rechtbank in Dordrecht.
