De Leidse geleerde Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje schreef eind 19de eeuw het boek ‘Mekka‘ dat insloeg als een bom. In 2007, 120 jaar later, verscheen een Nederlandse vertaling. De faam van Snouck Hurgronje (geleerde, ontdekkingsreiziger, schrijver, spion) is grotendeels gebaseerd op zijn beschrijving van het alledaagse leven in de heilige stad van Islam, Mekka. Om tot Mekka toegelaten te worden werd hij moslim. Hij trouwde een Ethiopische prinses. Frankrijk beschuldigde hem van spionnage.

As he couldn’t enter the jurisdictions of Makkah, Hurgronje first landed in the port city of Jeddah and immediately began to socialize within the city’s elite circles. In order to gain access into the Holy City, as well as the trust of citizens and government officials, he publicly converted to Islam and became known as Abd Al-Ghaffar. Most Americans don’t mind full body scans and being patted down because they don’t like to be killed by terrorists.

According to Gallup poll relatively few frequent U.S. air travelers are upset about the new procedures or inclined to cut back on flying as a result. A large majority (71%) of travelers say any potential loss of personal privacy from full-body scans and pat-downs is worth it as a means of preventing acts of terrorism.

The FBI had been tracking Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, a Somali-born U.S. citizen, since a year. That started when Mohamed contacted a suspected terrorist in Pakistan by e-mail in August 2009.
The FBI helped Mohumed plan his ‘attack’, though they encouraged him to consider whether he really wanted to be responsible for the murder of innocents and gave him several opportunities to back down. He didn’t. Muhamed was arrested 18 minutes before the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Portland.

The Oregonian:- The FBI thwarted an attempted terrorist bombing in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square before the city’s annual tree-lighting Friday night, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon.

Zowel koningin Beatrix als Apiedapie wezen onlangs op de gevaren van internet. Koningin Beatrix deed het tijdens een toespraak waarin ze zei dat de virtuele wereld mensen van elkaar verwijdert. Apiedapie zei het treffend op drasties: Elkaar ongestraft, ongecorrigeerd en onzichtbaar afmaken.
Wijnand Boon wil laten zien dat ze beide geen gelijk hebben. Dat sociale media als internet, twitter en facebook mensen niets afneemt maar ze juist dichter bij elkaar brengt. Om dat te bewijzen loopt hij van Leiden naar Compostela, naar Rome, naar Jeruzalem. Voor hulp als voedsel, slaapplaats, zakgeld etc. is hij geheel afhankelijk van de nieuwe media.
Voorlopige conclusie: hij leeft nog!

Dutch pilgrim sets out to prove social media unites

Dutch Queen Beatrix claimed that virtual encounters distanced people from one another. Wijnand Boon wants to prove her wrong. While he agrees that some social values have eroded, he was bothered by Beatrix’ notion that Internet-based relationships contributed to a decreasing sense of community and responsibility in society.
So he began a journey from his hometown of Leiden - walking 9,700 km to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, Rome and, ultimately, Jerusalem. Armed with only his iPhone and a guitar, the 33-year-old Dutchman “tweets” his way along, giving updates about his journey via Twitter, Facebook and his blog and depending on the altruism of others to provide him with lodging, food, donations, and moral support.

Todd Akin (R-MO): “They came here with the idea that after trying socialism that it wasn’t going to work. They realized that it was unbiblical, that it was a form of theft, so they pitched socialism out. They learned that in the 1620s.”

Funny guy! The Pilgrims did not come to America to flee socialism and embrace capitalism “in the early 1620′s.” Socialism as an idea didn’t become known until the 18th century and socialist political parties did not start to gain power until more than a century after that. Wetenschap: erkent dat mensen vaak falen als ze redeneren, beweringen worden dan ook streng getoetst op logische consistentie en overeenstemming met meetbare verschijnselen. Wetenschappers omarmen het scepticisme, ze accepteren alleen een bewering als de feiten en de logica hen daartoe dwingt.

Religie: erkent dat mensen vaak falen als ze redeneren, het hele redeneer proces wordt daarom terzijde geschoven. Religie omarmt blind de bewering van de één of andere autoriteit. Des te blinder en totaler de overgave aan de autoriteit is, des te religieuzer je bent.

Wetenschap: organiseert zijn eigen oppositie, felle tegenspraak is een definiërend onderdeel van het wetenschappelijke proces. Wetenschappers zijn voortdurend bezig aan te tonen dat andere wetenschappers zich vergissen.

Religie: ziet tegenspraak als een vorm van ketterse afvalligheid die fel bestreden moet worden, als het even kan het liefst met overheidsdwang.

Gevolg is dat wetenschappers na een felle en soms langdurige discussie het vaak eens worden (alle wetenschappers ongeacht hun gender, etniciteit, religie of nationaliteit komen tot een zelfde conclusie).

De verschillende religies zullen het nooit eens worden ze trekken zich elk terug in hun eigen gelijk.

Er is dus maar één wetenschappelijke waarheid.

Iran’s parliament revealed it “planned to impeach President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but refrained under orders from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, exposing a deepening division within the regime.” Conservative newspapers in Iran reported that lawmakers have also launched a petition to start a debat about Ahmadinejad’s impeachment. Four prominent lawmakers accused the president of violating the law.

If the terrorists really would want to scare America big way they would use small attacks all over the States. Blow up a bus in Kentucky or a Starbucks in Connecticut. Do one small act every so often with no pattern or warning and America would go nuts.

Hullabaloo - It’s certainly possible that one day an Islamic terrorist is going to kill a lot of people in America again. But it’s almost certain they will do it somewhere other than a passenger airplane. If it’s in a shopping center, will they then make us all go through scanners at the mall if we want to buy a pair of shoes? If they blow up an office building will every worker in America be subject to frisking?
That’s why this is security theater. We are chasing phantoms by pretending that if we stop people from carrying a bottle of shampoo on an airplane that we are safe. If you are so scared of terrorism that you’re willing to throw logic out the window and subject yourself to ever more irrational safety procedures for no good reason, you’d better think twice about ever leaving your house. That, of course, is exactly the point of terrorism. And authoritarian police states.

Ik raakte vanochtend in een wegrestaurantje aan de praat met een moslimman van 46. Hij keek me aan en zei dat ik een probleem had. Ik vond het knap dat hij dat kon zien, want ik wist nog van niets.
Ik vroeg hem wat over zichzelf te vertellen en hij zei dat hij vrachtwagenchauffeur was, maar al twee maanden werkeloos, omdat het contract van zijn baas afgelopen was. Hij kreeg geen uitkering en ging af en toe wat geld van de bank halen om daar met zijn gezin van te leven. Die hopeloze toestand spookte de hele dag door zijn hoofd en hij kon aan niets anders meer denken.
Ik kreeg de indruk dat zijn probleem iets groter was dan het mijne, wat dat ook zijn moge. Ik vroeg hem of hij wel eens alcohol had gedronken en hij zei dat hij nog nooit een druppel alcohol had aangeraakt, hoewel hij vroeger op een ambassade had gewerkt waar drank te krijgen was. Hij had geen idee hoe het smaakte. Ik had geen reden om aan zijn verhaal te twijfelen en verbaasde me over zoveel gehoorzaamheid en volgzaamheid.

The Obama administration is apparently planning to lavish Israel with extremely expensive subsidies to purchase billions of dollars worth of F-35 stealth aircraft simply in exchange for a 9o-day settlement freeze. Obama officials apparently believe that this massive bribe is necessary to induce Netanyahu’s cabinet to agree to the freeze.
Why isn’t the $30 billion aid package we give them — and what ought to be the threat of its diminution or cessation along with termination of the countless other means of support we provide — sufficient to induce this extremely minor concession, one which we insist is vital for our own security?
And just in case you were wondering: yes, it is still true that if you question American policy toward Israel or criticize “pro-Israel advocates” in America, you will be immediately smeared as an Israel-hating anti-Semite by right-wing polemicists who strangely still appear to believe that these sad, discredited tactics will intimidate people and suppress such debate.

‘Dakevangelist’ Joop van Ooijen en de gemeente Giessenlanden hebben de strijdbijl rond het conflict over de daktekst Jezus redt definitief begraven. De tekst op het dak van de boerderij van Van Ooijen mag blijven staan, maar wordt kleiner en de geverfde dakpannen worden vervangen door traditionele oranje pannen.
De daktekst was de gemeente jarenlang een doorn in het oog. Het conflict leidde onder meer tot een gang naar de Raad van State en de rechtbank in Dordrecht.

Maleisië is een heerlijk land, bijna altijd mooi weer, prachtige natuur, democratische bestuursvorm, geen schrijnende armoede, weinig criminaliteit, maar het is overduidelijk wel een moslimland. Nu heb je daar als toerist niet al te veel last van, de meisjes met hun tuttige hoofddoekjes lonken en flirten net zo fanatiek als hun leeftijdgenoten in niet-moslimlanden, een paar keer per dag klinkt vanuit de minaretten wat gejammer, maar dat duurt meestal maar een paar minuten en als de imam toevallig een mooie stem heeft, sta ik zelfs met plezier te luisteren. Echter, als je tegen het eind van de middag of ’s-avonds aan tafel zin krijgt in een koud biertje dan kom je vaak van een koude kermis thuis.

Het is alleen verkrijgbaar in de grotere hotels en daar kom ik niet en verder in Chinese restaurants of winkels en daar kom ik dus regelmatig. Ik ben zeker geen alcoholist, maar ik zal bij een bordje nasi niet snel een glaasje jus bestellen. De Chinezen kunnen weliswaar ook rijst bakken, maar ik wil ook wel eens echt Maleisisch of Indiaas eten en dan ben je veroordeeld tot vruchtensap of water. (more…)

Thilo Sarrazin, de Duitse volgeling van Geert Wilders, heeft omstreden en onjuiste passages herschreven of geschrapt in zijn bestseller: “Deutschland schafft sich ab.” Hieronder een artikel in Welt Online waarin de wijzigingen staan die de ex-president van de Duitse centrale bank in zijn nieuwe druk heeft aangebracht. Overigens, zonder de wijzingingen te benoemen laat staan te verantwoorden. Zie bijvoorbeeld deze passage die helemaal is vervangen. Bijvoorbeeld deze over het ‘geringe intellectuele potentieel van moslim immigranten’.

In der 1. Auflage schreibt Sarrazin auf Seite 370: “So spielen bei Migranten aus dem Nahen Osten auch genetische Belastungen – bedingt durch die dort übliche Heirat zwischen Verwandten – eine erhebliche Rolle und sorgen für einen überdurchschnittlich hohen Anteil an verschiedenen Erbkrankheiten.“

In der aktuellen 14. Auflage ist dieser Satz nicht mehr enthalten. Sarrazin hat an seiner Stelle einen Satz, der sich zuvor in den Fußnoten befand, eingefügt: “Die für die Einwanderung nach Deutschland relevanten Herkunftsgebiete – Türkei, Nah- und Mittelost, Nordafrika – weisen sowohl bei den Pisa-Studien als auch bei den TiMSS-Studien (International Mathematics and Science Study) sehr niedrige Werte aus, die zur Schulleistung der entsprechenden Migrantengruppen in den Beziehungsländern passen.“

Did you know that rich Republicans want to cut all kinds of government spending on poor and middleclass Americans? Deficit and all of that. Well listen to what soon-to-be Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor doesn’t want to cut.

Glenn Greenwald: Eric Cantor last month proposed that money to Israel not be classifed any longer as “foreign aid” — in order to shield it from all cuts. In other words, Cantor wants American citizens to sacrifice in the extreme, to lose all sorts of benefits and security in the name of austerity, but wants to shield Israel — with a higher standard of living — from those cuts. Put another way, Americans should give up Social Security and Medicare benefits so that they can continue to transfer billions of dollars every year to Israel, a foreign country which offers far more of a safety net to its own citizens.

Glenn Beck heeft een show op Fox News die dagelijks pure haat de ether in stuurt. Zo groot is zijn invloed dat een aantal recente moorden in de VS geinspireerd lijkt door deze gevaarlijke dwaas. Maar nu is Beck wellicht te ver gegaan. Hij heeft de Joodse gemeenschap tegen zich in het harnas gejaagd door filantroop George Soros aan te vallen.
Waarom?
Niet omdat Soros een kapitalist is maar omdat hij een progressieve kapitalist is. Iemand die door hard, intelligent werken miljardair is geworden maar toch best bereid is wat belasting te betalen. Iemand die begrijpt dat als het de hele gemeenschap beter gaat, uiteindelijk iedereen profiteert. Kortom: iemand die gehaat wordt door domme egoisten als Glenn Beck.
George Soros heeft WW II overleeft in Hongarije omdat zijn vader hem als kind onderbracht bij een katholieke familie. Zijn stiefvader was betrokken bij de confiscatie van Joodse tegoeden en George ging op zijn tochten met hem mee. Volgens Beck heeft Soros dus joden aangegeven bij de Nazi’s. Of nee, Glenn weet het altijd nog treffender te zeggen: George Soros heeft joden de dood ingestuurd.
Later in zijn programma refereerde Beck aan een uitspraak van de Maleisische ex-premier Mahathir die Soros een ‘gewetenloze profiteur’ noemde. Nu is Mahathir een anti-semiet van het zuiverste water die onder meer de val van de Aziatische valuta in de vorige eeuw aan een Joods complot toeschreef. Toen JdeW eens een artikel wijdde aan die kant van Mahathir werd onmiddelijk de hoofdredacteur van zijn krant op het matje geroepen bij de Maleisische ambassadeur in Nederland. Sindsdien heb ik in dat land nooit meer een functionaris te spreken gekregen. Niet dat ze iets te zeggen hebben overigens.
Glenn Beck vond een quote van die Mahathir dus relevant. Ook haalde Beck iemand in Thailand aan die Soros een ‘economische oorlogsmisdadiger’ noemde die ’sucks the blood from the people’.
Ziet u het? Zo werkt de manipulator Glenn Beck.
Toen: een kind dat ’Joden naar concentratiekampen stuurde’.
Nu ‘oorlogsmisdadger’ en ‘bloedzuiger’.
JdeW heeft vanaf het begin maar een ding van deze man gevonden en dat wordt alleen maar erger. Glenn Beck is puur slecht.
