UPDATE: Here is the formal position of the Texas Republican Party (.pdf) — the party of George Bush and Tom DeLay and Rick Perry — in 2006 regarding homosexuals in their state:
They believe that homosexuality should be a crime — that gay people should go to prison for having sex with their partners. They “demand” that Congress block the courts from ruling that the U.S. Constitution protects gay people from being imprisoned for the crime of homosexuality. And they believe that gay people should be denied custody of children, presumably even their own children, strictly for being gay.

It’s simple
And I can’t believe you missed it. Just like Larry Craig, Ted Haggard, etc., there are no gay conservatives. At worst, worst mind you, these are upstanding (wide stancing, really), no doubt about it, 100% hetero guys and gals that are susceptible to the machinations of the devil.
But let’s be clear. There are no gay conservatives.

From retroactive immunity (what the hell is the Democrat’s motivation behind that anyway) to the need to ‘defend’ gay Iranians while criminalizing gay Americans. I’m forever amazed Glenn can swallow his bile at these legal and moral atrocities every day and present such cogent analysis.
A pity hypocracy on this scale isn’t fatal to those holding it. The universe, not to mention Sunday telly, would be a much cleaner place if it were.

The most appropriate response
Was the laughter at Ahmadinejad’s statement.
We need more laughter in politics, especially when Administration officials do their ungainly gavottes in front of Congressional committees (even Wayne Newton was less painful to watch on Dancing With The Stars last night then, say, McConnell). The Pink war protesters should have sneezed “bullshit” when Petraeus spoke, not cried out “war criminal”. That would lend the administration the proper level of gravitas for their presentations.
One prop for Ahmadinejad, however; could you imagine Bush in front of a crowd as hostile as that? Based on his recent press conferences, someone would probably have to escort him from the stage as he completely lost his ability to speak semi-coherently.
