Terrorist attacks up… Is America ‘Extra Free’ now?
Maybe, one day, we might want to ask: ”why”? Is it because they Hate Us For Our Freedoms more than ever before? Are we Extra Free now, thus increasing their Hatred to brand new levels? Or are they still angry about George Bush’s cowboy swagger even though he’s been gone for a-year-and-a-half? Or is it that those Crazy Primitive Hateful Muslim Fanatics are being pumped full of more unfair anti-American conspiracy theories than before? Or does something else explain this? Is there perhaps anything we’re doing to cause it? Asking all that may not be as fun or as profitable as picking out all the new rights we’re going to restrict and renounce and the shiny new powers we’re going to vest in our leaders each time there is another attempted Terrorist attack, but it’s probably still a good idea to do it anyway.
The article notes that a new classified Department of Homeland Security report documents that “the number and pace of attempted attacks against the United States over the past nine months have surpassed the number of attempts during any other previous one-year period.” read on>>

UPDATE: One other question: does what we know about the last several accused Terrorists provide any clues — attempted New York subway bomber Najibullah Zazi (one of the first Afghan citizens ever involved in a Terrorist plot aimed at the U.S.); accused attempted Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad (an American citizen of Pakistani descent with a history of increasingly angry emails aimed at Guantanamo, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, American violence in the Muslim world and “the plight of the Palestinians,” leading him to search for — as he put it in 2006 — “a way to fight back when rockets are fired at us and Muslim blood flows”); and accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan (the son of Palestinian parents on the verge of being sent to the war in Afghanistan)?
Do we find any clues in any of these most recent incidents as to why Terrorism aimed at the U.S. is, at least if DHS is to be believed, at “an all-time high”?
UPDATE II: It really is fascinating to contrast headlines like the one from CNN above with equally common ones like this, from The Washington Post in March of this year:
This has been going on non-stop for the last decade: government officials simultaneously proclaiming that We’re defeating Al Qaeda!!! and gravely warning that The Terrorist Threat is at an All-Time High! Last fall, Winter Patriot explained the “fine line” government officials feel compelled to walk in order to maintain this perfectly calibrated framework (h/t bilejones):
The task . . . is to make the threat of terrorism appear to be diminishing and increasing at the same time. It has to be serious enough to justify spending hundreds of billions every year, and throwing your civil rights down the drain at the same time, and the results of such an enormous sacrifice must be tangible. And yet, despite the tangible success, the threat must never go away, or even be significantly diminished, because then the hundreds of billions of dollars per year would have to stop — or at least stop growing. And we can’t have that.
You might start clamoring for the return of your civil rights. We can’t have that, either.
For all these reasons . . . we simply can’t have an end to the War on Terror (by whatever name the president wants us to call it these days), and that means no president can ever declare it won and no president can ever declare it un-winnable.
Victory, while always getting closer, has to remain as far away as ever.
Hence, almost ten full years of The War on Terror, multiple wars, covert bombings, torture, lawbreaking, endless civil liberties and Constitutional erosions and all the rest, we’re told that while it’s all WORKING SWIMMINGLY, we all now face a Terrorism threat is at an “ALL-TIME HIGH!” One can, if one is really inclined, dispute whether that is the plan, but it is indisputable that this is exactly what, in fact, occurs, seemingly without end.

Are there any numbers. You know, like there were five attacks in 2009 and there have been six in 2010. What does “all time high” mean? Three, six, eleven? Isn’t that important to know in making a judgment?

Fox News must be happy with this since of course this is now all Obama’s fault.
