I thought I knew the Dutch: Archis Magazine, Droog Design, Experimental Jetset, Rem Koolhaas, Karel Martens, Piet Mondrian, Gerrit Rietveld, Johannes Vermeer, and Piet Zwart. Sound familiar? These names merely scratch the surface.
Tubular benches made from coiled steel frames covered in tennis balls and old blankets given new life as colorful rugs are among the unorthodox furnishings by Atelier Remy & Veenhuizen that will be on view at Industry Gallery in Washington. “Hands On,” an exhibition opening March 20, is the first solo show in the United States for the Utrecht studio founded by Tejo Remy, a designer associated with the influential Dutch company Droog, and René Veenhuizen.
