Ben Bernanke is herkozen tot voorzitter van het stelsel van centrale banken in de Verenigde Staten en dat is maar goed ook. Anders was opnieuw de pleuris uitgebroken. Vooral veel Republikeinse senators stemden tegen. Net alsof al deze ellende de schuld is van Bernanke en niet hun schuld.

For the past few weeks, the Senate has been debating whether to give Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke another term. Bernanke was long thought to be easily re-confirmed, but the vote became contentious after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) placed a hold on the nominee and senators on both sides of the aisle — such as Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) — began questioning whether he deserved a second term. Today, the Senate voted 70-30 to confirm the chairman once again.
Bernanke will now serve for four additional years.
Thirty votes is the largest number of votes ever cast against a federal reserve chair nominee. The roll call tally of the vote is now available. 28 Republicans, 11 Democrats, and 1 Independent voted against Bernanke.
