American Family Association’s (AFA) homophobic Director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy, Bryan Fischer, is constantly pushing an extreme anti-gay agenda, even going after people he just thinks might be gay. This week on AFA Radio, he claimed that not only was Adolf Hitler gay, but all his “Brownshirts” were too:
FISCHER: So Hitler himself was an active homosexual. And some people wonder, didn’t the Germans, didn’t the Nazis, persecute homosexuals? And it is true they did; they persecuted effeminate homosexuals. But Hitler recruited around him homosexuals to make up his Stormtroopers, they were his enforcers, they were his thugs. And Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual solders basically had no limits and the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whomever Hitler sent them after. So he surrounded himself, virtually all of the Stormtroopers, the Browshirts, were male homosexuals.
De New York Times heeft een artikel over allerlei complottheorien die in Pakistan de ronde doen. Pakistani zouden de neiging hebben de VS verantwoordelijk te stellen voor alles wat er mis gaat in hun land. Nu is het inderdaad een kenmerk van vrijwel alle moslim landen om de buitenwereld de schuld te geven van hun eigen problemen. Dat maakt het een stuk gemakkelijker voor zichzelf verrijkende, corrupte regiems om aan de macht te blijven.
Gelukkig doet de VS (en zeker fair and balanced Fox News) niet mee aan het verspreiden van complottheorien en leugens. Zoals dat Irak in 2002 op het punt zou hebben gestaan een atoombom te maken, over grote aantallen biologische en chemische wapens beschikteen direct betrokken was bij 9/11.
En ook is de VS er uiteraard niet op uit om Pakistan te vernietigen zoals veel moslims denken. Dat betreft slechts die delen van Pakistan die met de bommen van onbemande drones en predators te bereiken zijn of plaatsen waar het Amerikaanse huurlingenleger van Blackwater in staat is ‘high-value targets’ te kidnappen of tedoden.
Tenslotte moet eens duidelijk gesteld worden dat de aantijgingen dat de VS twee buurlanden van Pakistan bezet zou houden uit de lucht gegrepen zijn.

In The New York Times this morning… it’s time to mock and pity Those Crazy, Primitive, Irrational, Propagandized Muslims and their Wild Conspiracy Theories, which their reckless media and extremists maliciously disseminate in order to generate unfair and unfounded hostility toward the U.S.:
Conspiracy theory is a national sport in Pakistan, where the main players — the United States, India and Israel — change positions depending on the ebb and flow of history. Since 2001, the United States has taken center stage, looming so large in Pakistan’s collective imagination that it sometimes seems to be responsible for everything that goes wrong here… The problem is more than a peculiar domestic phenomenon for Pakistan. It has grown into a narrative of national victimhood that is a nearly impenetrable barrier to any candid discussion of the problems here. In turn, it is one of the principal obstacles for the United States in its effort to build a stronger alliance with a country to which it gives more than a billion dollars a year in aid.

UPDATE, mei 26th, 2010 at 9:58 am: De Megacombinatie (MC) van oud-bevelhebber Desi Bouterse heeft dinsdag een klinkende overwinning behaald bij de parlementsverkiezingen in Suriname. Naar verwachting komt de partijcombinatie van lijsttrekker Bouterse uit op 24 zetels en blijft het Nieuw Front van president Ronald Venetiaan steken op circa 14 zetels.

For the first time ever, more U.S. troops are deployed in Afghanistan than are deployed in Iraq. Ninety-four thousand are currently serving in Afghanistan while 92,000 are in Iraq. The U.S. troop presence in Afghanistan has tripled under Obama.
Republican Senator James Inhofe has stepped up to the plate yet again for big oil, pledging a Republican filibuster against legislation offered by New Jersey’s Robert Menendez that would completely lift the $75 million liability cap currently protecting big oil companies from claims of economic damage from oil spills.
Inhofe says Republicans oppose unlimited caps because it would limit the ability of oil companies to drill for oil. That’s bull. The only thing it would do is hold them accountable by limiting their ability to risk the livelihood of innocent third parties.
Wouldn’t it be nice if a Republican like Scott Brown sided with Democrats and took a stand against this sort of corporate socialism? GOPers like Inhofe want corporations to enjoy unlimited profit with limited risk. For all the bellyaching by teabaggers about the financial bailouts, why are they silent about this sort of bailout?

Dat is een wetenschappelijk bewezen kenmerk van haatspiralen. Ze zijn een opstapeling van kleine, schijnbaar onbetekende voorvallen.

Recently prosecutors in Maricopa County said they wouldn’t seek the death penalty for Faleh Hassan Almaleki. The decision came after his attorney, Billy Little, asked for “some level of assurance that there is no appearance that a Christian is seeking to execute a Muslim for racial, political, religious or cultural beliefs.”
Genital mutilation isn’t a tradition to preserve
The immigrant lives in Glendale, Arizona, and drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee. His 20-year-old daughter works at an Applebee’s. When she leaves a marriage arranged by her father and moves in with her boyfriend, her father gets angry. He hops in his Jeep, tracks her down in a parking lot and runs her over. Then he hightails it for Nogales, Mexico, yapping on his cell phone all the while. His daughter later dies of her wounds in a Phoenix hospital.

The birthers argue that Barack Obama is not born in the United States of America and therefore not a legitimate president of the U.S.A.:
“Hawaii, the state where President Obama was born, has done everything they can to debunk this myth that he wasn’t born in America,” Clinton said. “They’ve done everything but blow up his birth certificate, put it in neon lights and hang it on the dome in the Capitol.”
“But 45 percent of registered Republicans still believe that he is serving unconstitutionally,” Clinton insisted, though he did not identify the poll.
“Why?” he asked. “Because they’ve been told that by the only place they go to get information.”
Het meest agressieve land van de wereld is zonder twijfel de Verenigde Staten van Amerika. Het voert op dit moment oorlogen in Irak en Afghanistan en als het aan de neocons ligt binnenkort ook in Iran. Is dat een onderwerp tijdens de aanstaande tussentijdse verkiezingen voor de Senaat en het Huis, vraagt Glenn Greenwald zich af.
Nee dus. Het zijn dan ook geen Republikeinse oorlogen meer, het zijn ook de oorlogen van de Democraten. Gevolg: einde debat!
Glenn Greenwald: Thanks to Fred Hiatt and his friends, war is basically the permanent American condition: war is who we are and what we do as a nation. We’re essentially a war fighting state. We have been at “war” the entire last decade (as well as largley non-stop for the decades which preceded it), and continue now to be at “war” with no end in sight. That’s clearly true of our specific wars (in Afghanistan). And, worse, the way in which The War, more broadly, has been defined (i.e., against Islamic extremism/those who wish to harm Americans) makes it highly likely that it will never end in our lifetime. The decree that we are “at war” has been repeated over and over for a full decade, drumbed into our heads from all directions without pause, sanctified as one of those Bipartisan Orthodoxies that nobody can dispute upon pain of having one’s Seriousness credentials immediately and irrevocably revoked. With war this normalized, is it really surprising that nobody debates it any longer? It’d be like debating the color of the sky.
The absence of debate over war
The Washington Post’s Fred Hiatt ponders how little attention our various wars received during the primary campaigns that were just conducted: ”You would hardly know, from following this year’s election campaign or the extensive coverage of last week’s primaries, that America is at war… those wars, and the wisdom of committing to or withdrawing from them, have hardly been mentioned in the hard-fought campaigns of the spring.” Hiatt is right in that observation, and it’s worth examining the reasons for this. read on>> (more…)
