Enige maanden geleden schreef drasties over de moeder van FARC-guerillera Tanja Nijmeijer. Hannie Nijmeijer vertelde dat ze niet verwachtte haar dochter ooit nog levend terug te zien. ‘Tanja zal voorgoed bij de rebellen blijven, een terugkeer is onmogelijk’.
Mogelijk komt haar dochter binnenkort toch terug naar Nederland.
Het zal haar laatste reis zijn.
Colombiaanse autoriteiten hebben om de vingerafdrukken en foto’s van het gebit van Tanja Nijmeijer gevraagd. Om een dode vrouw in het basiskamp van de onlangs gedode leider van de FARC te identificeren. Zou identificatie door DNA iets zijn?
Tanja, alias ‘Eleen’, was de persoonlijke assistente van rebelcommandant Víctor Julio Suárez Rojas. alias ‘Mono JoJoy’. Hij en tientallen rebellen kwamen vorige week woensdag om bij een bombardement op hun kamp door het Colombiaanse leger. Onder de slachtoffers dus ook een vrouw waarvan de minister van defensie eerder zei dat ze niet scheen te lijken op Tanja Nijmeijer.

Israel allowed its freeze on Jewish settlement construction in the West Bank to expire this weekend, threatening ongoing peace talks. Palestinian negotiators “did not immediately” walk out of the talks, as they had threatened to do, and American officials are “desperately seeking a formula to satisfy both sides.”
A poll by Politico/George Washington University found that 81 percent of Amerians get their political news from cable channels: mainly Fox News (42 percent) as compared to 30 percent from CNN and 12 percent from MSNBC. The poll identifies right-wing “news” personalities as having the greatest impact on the debate. A majority of respondents had never heard of progressive tv-host Rachel Maddow (MSNBC).
*Fox’s opinionated personalities were also rated as having the greatest positive impact on the political debate in the country. Bill O’Reilly was rated as having, by far, the greatest positive impact, with 49 percent of respondents rating him positively, and 32 percent negatively.
*Glenn Beck was the second most-positively rated personality, with 38 percent of respondents saying he had a positive impact, and 32 percent saying he had a negative impact.
*Radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh was the third-most-positively ranked, with 36 percent saying he has a positive impact on the discourse, but his negatives far outweighed his positives, with 52 percent saying he has a negative impact.
Millionaire businessman John Raese is the ideal candidate for the Republican Party. He is a millionaire, so he will certainly support the badly needed taxcuts for rich Americans, and he is quite wacko.
Raese is running as the Republican Senate nominee to fill Robert Byrd’s seat in West-Virginia. He wants to take the state back to the 19th century. Not only does he want to return capitalism to the era before child labor laws, Social Security, and civil rights laws, he also promotes a pre-industrial vision of science. That is the “Save Our State” constitutional amendment that prohibits state courts from considering Islamic Sharia law in making rulings. Over 37 dagen zijn de tussentijdse verkiezingen in de Verenigde Staten. In veel staten kan nu al gestemd worden. De Republikeinse Partij schreef een manifest over hoe het verder met Amerika moet. Uiteraard grijpt de Grand Old Party in haar ‘Pledge to America’ terug op dezelfde maatregelen waar president Bush zo succesvol mee was. Lagere belastingen voor de rijkste Amerikanen, bezuinigen op bijstand voor zieken, werklozen en andere minder bedeelden, plus een beetje oorlog voeren, tegen Iran bijvoorbeeld.

Twee Golfstaten, Saoedi-Arabië en de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten, hebben het gebruik van de blackberry verboden. Zelf ben ik er niet zo op tegen dat regeringen in staat zijn electronische communicatie te bekijken. Als er maar goede parlementaire controle op is, uiteraard. Het is een middel om terrroristische aanslagen te voorkomen.
In Amerika, dat heel goed bevriend is met de twee dictatoriaal bestuurde Golfstaten, gaan stemmen op om hetzelfde te doen. Glenn Greenwald is er wel fel op tegen. Hij vindt niet dat de staat gegevens over individuen mag verzamelen als ze niet onder de verdenking van een misdrijf staan. Eens was dat het kenmerk van de Amerikaanse democratie. Toen kwam George W. Bush.

Mijn oom belde vandaag op. Hij was er slecht aan toe. Zo slecht dat hij naar de dokter in zijn dorp was geweest.
“Maar dat is eens maar nooit weer”, zei hij. “Jij had toch een homeopathische arts?”
Ik gaf hem het adres van onze huisarts.
“Maar wat zei je dokter dan”, vroeg ik.
“Hij gaf mij het advies om veel modderbaden te nemen.”
“Prima toch”, zei ik, “geen medicijnentroep in je lijf.”
“Ja, maar moet je horen wat hij antwoordde toen ik hem vroeg of dat zou helpen?
‘Dat niet, maar dan kunt u vast wennen aan de grond’.”
Ghana gaat niet dezelfde fouten maken als Nederland op economisch gebied, dat zei vice-president Mahana dit weekeinde.
Dat is een hele opluchting, vindt u ook niet?
Ten koste van alles zal Ghana voorkomen dat het in dezelfde deplorabele toestand geraakt als ooit Nederland. U hebt het wellicht verdrongen maar de Nederlandse economie was ooit volkomen stuk tijdens een periode die wordt gekenmerkt door de Hollandse Ziekte, de Dutch Disease. Dat waren bittere tijden van armoede, ja hongersnood zelfs. Ghana gaat het niet zo doen en dat is uiteraard geweldig nieuws voor de bevolking en de buitenlandse bedrijven die massaal in de economie hebben geinvesteerd.

Het is weer tijd voor ons favoriete onderwerp: Christine O’Donnel. De Republikeinse kandidaat voor het belangrijktste orgaan in de Amerikaanse volksvertegenwoordiging: de Senaat. Als een echte Republikeinse teabagger en volgeling van Glenn Beck ontkent ze het bestaan van evolutie. En ze kan het bewijzen.
O’DONNELL: You know what, evolution is a myth. And even Darwin himself..
MAHER: Evolution is a myth?!? Have you ever looked at a monkey!
O’DONNELL: Well then, why they — why aren’t monkeys still evolving into humans?
Christine O’Donnell apparently doesn’t understand why monkeys can’t turn into people right before her eyes.
Bill Maher continued his video torment of O’Donnell by releasing another old clip of her on his HBO show on Friday night, this time showing one in which she argued that “Evolution is a myth.” The comedian has a soft spot for the sweet-faced Republican Senate candidate from Delaware but still can’t hold back the truth. “It’s powerful stupid to think primate evolution could happen fast enough to observe it. That’s bacteria.”
O’Donnell appeared on Maher’s old show, Politically Incorrect, 22 times so we can expect more of what today is mainstream conservative ignorance.
On Fox News yesterday BillKkristol was discussing President Obama’s policy on Iran and he gave the neoconservative’s answer to every foreign policy problem: bombing.
Kristol scoffed at President Obama’s continued offers of engagement and claimed that the only way to deal with Iran was to threaten war. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the Iranians do a phony feint toward negotiations to try and buy some more time,” Kristol then explained when he hopes America’s next war will start. “I’m open to the notion that he will end up a year from now using force against Iran, and I guess he feels there’s no point signaling that now.” [read on](more…)
Dan zegt hij: „Ik maak schepjes.” „Schepjes?” reageer ik. „Ja, ik ben heroine verslaafd en dit werkt het beste.” (ikje: Precies goed)
Onzinverhaal: bij heroine heb je geen schepje nodig, en al zeker geen ding wat je zelf m.b.v. de tram geknutseld hebt. Een spuit, ja. Een lepel, ja. Aluminiumfolie, ja. Een schepje: neen. Volslagen kwatsch.
Tijd voor weer wat drugsvoorlichting.
Nog gisteren liet NRC een Haagse cocaineverslaafde zijn spul ‘op een spiegeltje versnijden’. Ook flauwekul: de dealer versnijdt (aanlengen, verdunnen, om de winst te verhogen), de gebruiker hakt de brokjes slechts tot poeder.
Enkele weken terug werd er ergens cannabis gekweekt onder ‘warmtelampen’. Wederom nonsense: voor warmte heeft men kachels, lampen geven licht. (Vervelend voor de kwekers is de bijkomende warmte-ontwikkeling: deze warmte moet –duur– worden afgeventileerd, met kans op ontdekking door geur èn door infrarood-detectie vanuit de lucht.
Ik sta op de tram te wachten. Zo ook een man met een baard, Arabisch type, bekend gezicht ergens wel, alleen weer nog wat magerder dan de laatste keer. Hij zit op het bankje, een rugzak naast zich.
In de verte komt de tram aan. De man begint in zijn tas te rommelen en haalt er twee staafjes met draden uit. Hij staat op en legt het geheel zorgvuldig op de rails. Dan roept hij „Hij-Die-Niet-Genoemd-Mag-Worden-Is-Groot!” en rent weg.
Verbaasd kijken we hem na. “We moeten iets doen!!!”, schreeuwt een oudere heer in paniek. En hij begint met zijn armen te zwaaien om de tram te laten stoppen.
“Oh, die arme mensen!” gilt een vrouw.
De tram komt snel dichterbij. “Weg hier!!” roept een tiener, “dit gaat ploffen!”
Mensen schreeuwen, rennen, botsen, struikelen. Het oudere heertje grijpt naar zijn hart. De vrouw valt flauw. De tiener kijkt alleen maar met zijn wijdopengesperde ogen.
En ik? Alleen ik blijf rustig, met mijn webcammetje in de hand. Het kunstproject loopt als een tram.

Werthmann: Well, right now we are very blessed that this is an election year. Uh, educate the voters. It’s already happening. So we can take at least the U.S. House back, and hopefully the Senate.
