Just one more example of the best healthcare system in the world:
Police want to interview Michael Jackson’s doctor after the star’s family suggested he died because of a drug overdose, according to reports.
The King of Pop suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Holmby Hills and was taken to the UCLA medical centre where he was pronounced dead.
Tmz.com said Jackson received a daily injection of Demerol, a synthetic narcotic similar to morphine, but was given “too much” on Thursday.
Los Angeles police want to talk to the doctor - who lived at the star’s home and administered his injections - but he has not yet been found, the entertainment website said.
During the floor debate in the US House this morning over the historic American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES), Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) received a round of applause from GOP colleagues when he claimed that man-made global warming is a “hoax” with “no scientific consensus.” Broun, citing misleading statistics, also claimed that the bill would hurt the poor and “kill jobs:”
BROUN: Scientists all over this world say that the idea of human induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus. … And who’s going to be hurt most [by ACES] the poor, the people on limited income…the people who can least afford to have their energy taxes raised by MIT says $3100 per family. … This bill must be defeated. We need to be good stewards of our environment, but this is not it, it’s a hoax! … [APPLAUSE.]
On his radio show today, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh quoted at length from a new article in the American Thinker entitled, “Obama, the African Colonial” by L.E. Ikenga who identifies herself as a “first generation born West African-American woman.” In the article Ikenga argues that Obama is best understood through his “identification with his father” and his adoption of a “political mindset rooted in post colonial Africa”:
Like many educated intellectuals in post colonial Africa, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was enraged at the transformation of his native land by its colonial conqueror. But instead of embracing the traditional values of his own tribal cultural past, he embraced an imported Western ideology, Marxism. I call such frustrated and angry modern Africans who embrace various foreign “isms”, instead of looking homeward for repair of societies that are broken, African Colonials. They are Africans who serve foreign ideas.
Ikenga concludes, “[U]nderstand this: the African colonial who is given too much political power can only become one thing: a despot.” read on here>> (more…)

A right-wing writer on how to be a real man. Andrew Klavan is a right-wing writer who, according to his Wikipedia page, specializes in “tough-guy” novels; writes for “Pajamas Media”; and believes George Bush is similar to Dark Knight’s Batman because both “understand that there is no moral equivalence” between our society and the Evil Ones and that the Evil Ones “must be hounded to the gates of Hell.” When Klavan demands that the Terrorists “be hounded to the gates of Hell,” he means that he wants other men and women to do the hounding, as Klavan, born in 1954, has never served in the military.
Today, this super-tough guy has a column at Pajamas Media explaining — in the context of a new film he saw that joyously depicts men as men and ladies as ladies — what distinguishes real men like him from fake males who have had their manhood taken by women: read on here>> (more…)
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) didn’t just “let down a lot of people” when he spent the last week in Argentina with his mistress, he may have committed a crime. Under South Carolina law:
Any man or woman who shall be guilty of the crime of adultery or fornication shall be liable to indictment and, on conviction, shall be severally punished by a fine of not less than one hundred dollars nor more than five hundred dollars or imprisonment for not less than six months nor more than one year or by both fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the court. . . . “Adultery” is the living together and carnal intercourse with each other or habitual carnal intercourse with each other without living together of a man and woman when either is lawfully married to some other person.
Fortunately for Sanford, it is not entirely clear that the South Carolina justice system has jurisdiction over an apparent crime that he committed while traveling abroad in Argentina. read on here>> (more…)
Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, performer of the best-selling album of all time, and perhaps the best dancer of his entire generation, is dead at 50.
Videos above show The Jackson 5 on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1970, and at Madison Square Garden in 2001.
When I had you to myself
I didn’t want you around
Those pretty faces always made you stand out in a crowd
But someone picked you from the bunch
One glance was all it took
Now it’s much too late for me to take a second look
Oh baby give me one more chance
To show you that I love you
Won’t you please let me
Back in your heart
Oh darlin’ I was blind to let you go
But now since I see you in His arms
I want you back

1,05 Euro.

Dutch students take rickshaw home.
NEW DELHI: The humble cycle-rickshaw just got a leg-up. One of its league is on its way to Holland thanks to the fascination of two Dutch University students who were so much impressed by the “unique three-wheeler” that they bought one from Pahargunj on Tuesday and got it shipped to their homeland.
Michael Dordrecht (18) Peter-Paul Vossepoea (20) have just finished school and are on a tour of India. The duo is ecstatic about their new buy and can’t wait to wheel it to the university when they join it on returning home. But they are aware that their unusual vehicle that cost them a measly Rs 8,000, adding to its many attractions may suffer from a scarcity of spares back home, so they have also bought eight tyres, a couple of tubes and some nuts and bolts for their new acquisition. Koning Leopold I van België overwoog om Kreta, Cuba, Texas, de Faeroer-eilanden of enige Antilliaanse eilanden te veroveren. België was namelijk kolonieën nodig.
(more…)
I think it’s just automatic now. When a high-profile Republican gets into trouble, Fox News steps in to mislead their sheep viewers by labeling them as Democrats.
Here’s a short list of Fox’s chyron hackery:
John McCain - Democrat
Joe Lieberman - Democrat Arlen Spector - Democrat (when he was still a Republican!)
Mark Foley - Democrat
Media Matters also caught Fox listing a Democratic strategist as Bush’s head of FEMA — because his name happened to be Michael Brown. Oh, and we can’t forget the time they announced Rep. William Jefferson’s indictment using footage of Congressman John Conyers. They apologized to their audience, but never to Conyers personally. read on here>> (more…)
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) today admitted that he had spent the past week in Argentina — not on the Appalachian trail, as his staff originally told the press — with a woman with whom he has been having an affair.
As the New York Times notes, the press conference “began rather oddly, with Mr. Sanford rambling about his love for the Appalachian trail, his exhaustion from a legislative battle over the federal stimulus and a need to get away from the public eye.” Sanford, who is married and has four children, eventually admitted that he has been having an affair with an Argentine woman. He also announced that he would be resigning as head of the Republican Governors Association. Watch it: read on here>> (more…)
[..]It would be one thing for the Obama administration to argue that there is no value in releasing torture photos specifically, and in investigating and imposing accountability for past abuses generally, if there were consensus among Americans that torture is wrong, barbaric and — as Ronald Reagan put it (hypocritically but still emphatically) — “an abhorrent practice” justifiable by “no exceptional circumstances whatsoever.” But we have the opposite of that consensus: we have an ongoing debate over torture that is fluid, vibrant and far from settled, with half the population embracing the twisted and morally depraved pro-torture position.[..]
The “Neda video,” torture, and the truth of images
The single most significant event in shaping worldwide revulsion towards the violence of the Iranian government has been the video of the young Iranian woman bleeding to death, the so-called “Neda video.” Like so many iconic visual images before it — from My Lai, fire hoses and dogs unleashed at civil rights protesters, Abu Ghraib — that single image has done more than the tens of thousands of words to dramatize the violence and underscore the brutality of the state response.
For the last question at his press conference yesterday, Obama was asked by CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux about his reaction to that video and to reports that Iranians are refraining from protesting due to fear of such violence. As Obama was answering — attesting to how “heartbreaking” he found the video; how “anybody who sees it knows that there’s something fundamentally unjust” about the violence; and paying homage to “certain international norms of freedom of speech, freedom of expression” — Helen Thomas, who hadn’t been called on, interrupted to ask Obama to reconcile those statements about the Iranian images with his efforts at home to suppress America’s own torture photos (”Then why won’t you allow the photos -”).
The President quickly cut her off with these remarks:
THE PRESIDENT: Hold on a second, Helen. That’s a different question. (Laughter.) read on here>> (more…)
