Though I never checked it I’m convinced this statement by the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S.A. is not true. He said no country with openly serving gays has ever defeated the US.
Didn’t the U.S. lose against Vietnam? In Vietnam everyone able to fight against the U.S. did fight. The Vietnamese didn’t care whether their soldiers were straight or gay.

Het loopt echt alle spuigaten uit met de Roma in Nederland. Neem Eindhoven waar bejaarden door straatbendes van Roma-kinderen worden mishandeld, bespuugt en bestolen. Burgemeester Rob van Gijzel is de hele week al in spoedoverleg met Bureau Jeugdzorg, de Raad van de Kinderbescherming en de politie. “Dit vraagt om een structurele en ingrijpende aandacht van jeugdzorg,” aldus Van Gijzel tegen het Eindhovens Dagblad.
Er is wel één mazzel. De politie weet wie het zijn: drie kinderen - twee zusjes van negen en tien jaar, en hun neefje van tien.

Drasties doet veel aan hoe landen omgaan met minderheden. De wijze waarop een staat omgaat met minderheden en zwakkeren (vrouwen, kinderen, dieren) vinden wij de belangrijkste maat voor de beschaving van een samenleving.
In Oeganda verscheen onlangs een krant met foto’s van de honderd belangrijkste homo’s van het land en de oproep om ze op te hangen. Eerder probeerden de leiders in dat Afrikaanse semi-dictatuurtje een wet in te voeren die homosexueel gedrag strafbaar zou maken, en wel met de dood.
Opvallend is dat de gewaardeerde Amerikaanse priester Rick Warren, die de inzegening van het presidentschap van Barack Obama deed, heel goede banden heeft met de religieuze leiders in Oeganda. Sterker nog, de voorgestelde wetgeving in Oeganda was geinspireerd door drie Amerikaanse evangelisten die in 2009 in Oeganda de blijde boodschap van Jezus Christus kwamen brengen: dood aan de homo’s. Niet lang na hun bezoek kwam de Oegandese minister van Justitie met het wetsvoorstel dat die boodschap van God moest legaliseren, de Anti-Homosexualiteit Wet. De wet heeft het vanwege internationale druk niet gehaald.
Maar als de haat eenmaal is aangewakkerd, is die moeilijk te stoppen, zie maar.

De video van de journalist die in Alaska in de handboeien werd geslagen omdat hij een lastige vraag stelde aan de Republikeinse kandidaat voor de Amerikaanse Senaat staat twee posten hieronder. Daarop is te zien dat ook andere journalisten werden bedreigd. Glenn Greenwald valt vooral over het feit dat de lijfwacht van de favoriet van de Teaparty Joe Miller soldaten in actieve dienst blijken te zijn. Glenn Beck-fan Joe Miller verdedigde de handelwijze van zijn lijfwacht.
Dus nog even samengevat. In de Verenigde Staten van Amerika worden soldaten gehuurd door Republikeinse politieke kandidaten om journalisten die lastige vragen stellen onschadelijk te maken.
Nogmaals, voor de mensen die er later ingekomen zijn, we hebben het hier niet over Zimbabwe of Myanmar maar over de VS.

Joe Miller’s private “guards” were active-duty military

One of the more disturbing election incidents took place in Alaska on Sunday night, when private “guards” working for GOP Senate nominee Joe Miller forcibly detained and handcuffed a journalist as he tried to ask the candidate questions which he did not want to answer. This photograph shows the journalist, Alaska Dispatch’s Tony Hopfinger, handcuffed in a chair, surrounded by Miller’s guards. This story became much worse yesterday when video was released that was taken by a reporter from the Anchorage Daily News showing that these guards thuggishly threatened at least two other reporters, from ADN, with physical detention as they tried to find out what happened, demanded that they leave or else “be handcuffed,” and physically blocked them from filming the incident all while threatening to physically remove them from the event, which was advertised to the public. Not only does Glenn Beck-fan Christine O’Donnell (R) not know that there is separation of church and state in the United States, like in all of the civilised world. But apparently she doesn’t want separation of state and church.

In a debate earlier this week Teaparty candidate Christine O’Donnell said her ooponent Chris Coons was ignorant about the Constitution and challenged him to explain “where in the Constitution is the separation of church and state?” When Coons explained that little thing about how the First Amendment bars Congress from making laws on the establishment of religion, O’Donnell didn’t believe him. “You’re telling me that’s in the First Amendment?” she asked.

A reporter was handcuffed in Alaska by private security guards working for the Republican Senate nominee Joe Miller for Alaska.
Why?
He asked the Teaparty-favorite a question he did not like and did not want to answer.
It was a simple question about Miller’s previous employment.
And not only that reporter was harassed and handcuffed. In this video the goons threaten to detain other journalists trying to talk to the detained Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger.

IndyPosted, Mumbai - An extremely rare albino seal has been admitted to the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre Lenie ‘t Hart (SRRC ) in Holland for treatment of a very serious lung infection. The SRRC is a Dutch veterinary hospital that treats and releases seals that have fallen ill rather than euthanizing them. The centre has reportedly only treated 6 such seals in the last 40 years. The last albino seal was treated at the centre 10 years ago.
The albino baby seal will be quarantined and treated at the Dutch facility over the next few months. After that time it will be released back into its natural habitat in the North Sea.

Volgens de turnbond heeft Yuri van Gelder mondeling toegegeven weer cocaine te hebben gebruikt. Vandaag kwam Van Gelder met een schriftelijke verklaring van drie kantjes die kort kan worden samengevat als: Nietes!
Volgens Van Gelder zou dat ook blijken uit een test van deze week woensdag en alle testen daarvoor, die allemaal negatief zijn geweest.
Om de zaak drasties op te lossen stel ik voor dat we Yuri van Gelder life op tv een plasje laten doen. Vervolgens laten we dat plasje op cocaine testen door het beste laboratorium ter wereld.

Gebruik bij de tv-opnames geen groothoeklens met de camera aub. Anders krijgt Yuri hetzelfde probleem als JdeW die door het rechterlijke gezag is verboden nog in het openbaar te plassen. Kom op mensen dat is toch een aflopende zaak. Daar valt niets meer te halen, niets meer te doen. Ik heb het al vaker gezegd. Probeer uit alle macht Mullah Omar en Osama Bin Laden te pakken te krijgen - die zijn tenslotte in hoofdzaak verantwoordelijk voor 9/11 - en maak dan dat je weg komt. Ik heb ook de indruk dat president Obama dat eigenlijk wil. Dit laatste Amerikaanse offensief is slechts een poging om vanuit een positie van kracht te onderhandelen met de Taliban. En zelfs dat is feitelijk al mislukt.
Zou dit de inbreng van Geert Wilders zijn met zijn idolatie voor de VS. Wordt Geert Wilders de Tony Blair van Nederland?

People close to the new government in the Netherlands said a consensus existed about contributing forces to Nato’s efforts to bolster Afghan police forces but that neither the timing nor the nature of the assistance was yet clear.

The departure of Dutch troops from Afghanistan in August after the last government’s collapse was seen by some as having strained relations between The Hague and Washington.

Nederlandse deskundigen zijn niet aan te slepen in Colombia. Zoals bekend is Tanja Nijmeijer al jaren werkzaam bij de Farc. Een organisatie die onder meer bekend is van de handel in vooral bij de elite populaire genotsmiddelen. Tanja Nijmeijer is onlangs zelfs benoemd tot PR-directrice van de Internationale Commissie van de organisatie.
En volgens onbevestigde geruchten zou communicatie-strateeg Kai van der Linden - verantwoordelijk voor de successtory Rita Verdonk - door de Farc zijn gevraagd om op te treden als Tanja’s spindoctor.
Nu wordt bekend dat de VVD-er Hans van Baalen door de Colombiaanse regering is gevraagd om te helpen Tanja Nijmeijer weg te kapen bij de Farc met de toezegging dat ze daarbij sympathiek behandeld zal worden. We geven hem een goede kans want het is bekend Tanja is gevoelig voor mooie mannen. En één ding is zeker… hij heeft er ‘the looks’ voor!

Ik, JdeW, heb in mijn leven driemaal cocaine gebruikt. Altijd gekregen nooit gekocht. Eenmaal van Herman Brood in een Amsterdams café, eenmaal in de VS van nu een producer van Hollywood-films en nog een keer elders. Behalve als jonkie wat hashies en als oudere jongere wat alcohol - net als cocaine natuurprodukten dus - verder nooit iets hoor.
Ik heb er geen spijt van maar het heeft me ook niets opgeleverd.
Mijn kinderen krijgen als ze niet roken en geen drugs gebruiken (behalve later wat alcohol) op hun 18de een auto.

Deze Amerikaan vindt het lachwekkend te denken dat door het Nederlandse beleid van gelegaliseerde prostitutie en drugsgebruik de criminaliteit zou afnemen. Hahahaha…

Who would be gullible enough to believe that legalizing prostitution and drug use would reduce crime? (I mean besides Dutch liberals and American libertarians.)

Nou heb ik geen zin al die cijfertjes weer te reproduceren (hier, hier, hier, hier) over bijvoorbeeld de semi burgeroorlog in Mexico, de financiering van de Farc in Colombia, het aantal mensen in Amerikaanse gevangenissen vanwege drugs vergeleken met in Nederland (ruim 10x meer) maar kijk gerust hier. Een kwart van de gevangenen wereldwijd zit in een Amerikaanse gevangenis.
Het systeem in Nederland is inderdaad slecht. Totale legalisatie van drugs en extreem drugsgebruik behandelen als een gezondheidsprobleem is veel beter, maar het is in ieder geval nog altijd tienmaal beter dan het Amerikaanse systeem.

We can conduct a nonstop campaign of drone and helicopter attacks in Pakistan and run a network of secret prisons around the world. We are the mightiest nation mankind has ever seen.
But we can’t seem to build a railroad tunnel to carry commuters between New Jersey and New York.
