In April, a Washington man named Charles Alan Wilson was arrested for threatening Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) for her vote to pass health care reform. He left a series of threatening messages on her voicemail, saying “It only takes one piece of lead. Kill the (expletive) senator! … Now that you’ve passed your health-care bill, let the violence begin” and “I do believe that every one of you (expletive) socialist democratic progressive (expletive) need to be taken out.”
Wilson was arrested after a federal agent called him pretending to be from a group backed by Americans for Prosperity, the right-wing organization responsible for funding some of the “grassroots” opposition to health care reform. Wilson told the agent, who he thought was a fellow opponent to health care reform, that “I will not blink” when it comes to shooting the Senator. “It’s not a threat, it’s a guarantee,” he said.

Now, Media Matters reports on new disturbing details about the extent to which Wilson may have been influenced by Fox News personality Glenn Beck. According to court records, Wilson’s family blamed Beck for putting Wilson “under a spell.” Wilson’s cousin submitted this letter to the court last month:

Nu pas snap ik wat er precies is gebeurd. Gelukkig is er altijd het Mauritius News om op terug te vallen.
De Nederlandse politie heeft een eigen programma ongevraagd geinstalleerd in miljoenen computers wereldwijd die met het Bredolab-virus waren geinfecteerd. Een politie-virus zeg maar. Dit programma stuurde de gebruikers van de computers naar een speciale site van de politie waarop informatie stond over de infectie en de verwijdering van het Bredolab-virus van hun computer.
Het is de vraag of dat mag.

Bredolab is een berucht botnet dat sinds juli 2009 meer dan 143 servers gebruikte om wereldwijd dertig miljoen pc’s te infecteren met 3,6 miljard besmette emails. Het Trojan Horse-virus werd geinstalleerd op computers waarna de criminelen persoonlijke gegevens zoals wachtwoorden konden stelen.

Uit de documenten blijkt dat Amerikanen bewust hebben meegeholpen aan het martelen en doden van burgers door Iraakse martelbrigades.
De traditionele media in de Amerika doen er niet veel aan.

Nee wat belangrijk is, is stoppen met zo gemeen zijn tegen…”

This is the heart of the matter. What Burns did to Julian Assange is most certainly not a “standard journalistic endeavor” for The New York Times. If anyone doubts that, please show me any article that paper has published which trashed the mental health, psyche and personality of a high-ranking American political or military official — a Senator or a General or a President or a cabinet secretary or even a prominent lobbyist — based on quotes from disgruntled associates of theirs. That is not done, and it never would be.

President Obama will become the first sitting president to appear on Comedy Central’s the Daily Show with “comedian-turned-activist” Jon Stewart.
Barack Obama’s appearance today is an attempt, according to White House officials, to “seek out young Democratic voters wherever they spend the most time.”

There has always been a violent fringe in the United States but all of a sudden this fringe isn’t so fringy any more. Violence is directly or indirectly promoted by rightwing contenders for the Senate, the House and by top conservative personalities at the nation’s premier right-wing media outlet, Fox News.
DailyKos, Kos: “We can stick our heads in the sand and pretend these crazies don’t exist, or we can see them for who they are, and what they seek for our country.”

Media Matters - On today’s radio show Glenn Beck said he couldn’t believe that Stephen Broden, a frequent guest on his Fox News show and a pastor who attended his 8-28 rally, said that violent overthrow of the U.S. government is an option that “is on the table.” […]It’s notable that in the report on Broden’s rhetoric, much of his most outlandish comments are major premises of Beck’s radio and Fox News show. Broden discussed health care reform sending seniors to early graves, Beck has promoted the “death panel” myth. Broden claimed that the Obama administration planned the economic problems facing the country, while Beck has said that Obama administration is engaged in a plot to “collapse the system.” Broden compared the current administration to Nazis, while hardly a day goes by when Glenn Beck doesn’t invoke the Nazis in his discussions of the Obama administration.

ThisJustIn - Greg Gould and Aurelio Tine say they just wanted to share their wedding plans. So they went one of the largest papers in New Hampshire, where gay marriage is legal and generally accepted, to work up a wedding announcement. To supplement my post yesterday about The New York Times‘ government-subservient coverage of the WikiLeaked documents regarding the war that newspaper played such a vital role in enabling, consider — beyond the NYT’s sleazy, sideshow-smears against Julian Assange — the vast disparity between how newspapers around the world and The New York Times reported on a key revelation from these documents: namely, that the U.S. systematically and pursuant to official policy ignored widespread detainee abuse and torture by Iraqi police and military (up to and including murders). In fact, American conduct goes beyond mere indifference into active complicity, as The Guardian today reports that “fresh evidence that US soldiers handed over detainees to a notorious Iraqi torture squad has emerged in army logs published by WikiLeaks.”

Tijdens de Vietnam-oorlog werd Daniel Elsberg, die de Pentagon Papers lekte waarin de gruwelijkheden werden beschreven in Vietnam begaan door de VS in naam van democratie, vervolgd door een speciale commissie ingesteld door president Nixon. En niet alleen hij, ook zijn familie, vrienden en kennissen.
Veel is er niet veranderd sinds toen. Nog steeds wordt iemand die het martelen en vermoorden van onschuldige mensen openbaart, vervolgd. Zoals Julian Assange van Wikileaks. Maar volgens dit verhaal van Glenn Greenwald gebeurt dat in de VS tegenwoordig niet alleen door de regering maar ook door de traditionele media. Gisteren liep Julian Assange weg bij een interview door CNN dat het slechts over valse geruchten over zijn persoonlijk leven wilde hebben en niet over 104.000 dode Irakezen.

Ik werd gewezen op deze militaire analyse op GeenStijl. Ik zie uw oren wapperen. Ach, gewoonlijk besteed ik daar ook geen aandacht aan. Maar soms is iets zo achterlijk dat het verachterlijk wordt. Het gaat om dit stukje op gisteren over de publikatie van Irak-documenten op Wikileaks:

“Iran voert vuile oorlog tegen U.S.A. in Irak.”
De tendentieuze anonieme lafbekjes van Wikileaks lekten vandaag maar liefst 400.000 fijne documenten over de US Army in Irak..

Tendentieus? Vindt u dat ook? Dat het openbaar maken van wat het Amerikaanse leger heeft gedaan in Irak, volgens hun eigen rapportage, tendentieus is?
En sinds wanneer is tendentieus een scheldwoord op GeenStijl? Ach, laten we het er op houden dat Bertje, sinds De Telegraaf eigenaar is geworden van GeenStijl, het plots weer helemaal ziet zitten in de traditionele media.
Anonieme lafbekjes? Hoe lang duurde het voordat we wisten wie het volk achter GeenStijl was, volk zoals LucasdeLinkselul?
Wij weten wel wie Wikileaks heeft opgericht. En wij weten ook over de campagne van bedreigingen die er tegen Julian Assange is gevoerd.
De Amerikaanse militairen die de documenten hebben gestolen en doorgegeven aan Wikileaks laf? Als ze gepakt worden gaan ze de cel in, dat kan je van mensen die blèren op GeenStijl niet zeggen.

Brussen: “Allemaal oude koek, Michael Moore is daardoor inmiddels miljonair geworden.”

Michael Moore heeft vier grote documentaires gemaakt: Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11, Sicko en Capitalism: A Love Story. Een ervan gaat over het martelen en moorden door Amerikanen in Irak. Iets mis mee?

Brussen: “Wat echter wel nieuw is, is het feit dat schurkistan Iran zich actief bemoeit met de oorlog in Irak…. Kortom: chips in huis? Bier koud? CNN aan? De derde wereldoorlog gaat nu beginnen.”

Jezus Bertje, hoe vaak hebben die grappige voorstelling van het met bier en chips tv-kijken naar het bombarderen van mensen met een ander kleurtje of geloof nu al niet op GeenStijl gezien. Allemaal oude koek. Bedenk eens wat nieuws of hou je domme waffel.
En inhoudelijk. Het is al jaren bekend dat er Iraniers actief zijn in Irak, uit openbare CIA-rapportage bijvoorbeeld. En een kind begrijpt waarom. Iran is een buurland van Irak. Dat betekent Bertje dat ze naast elkaar wonen. Misschien vinden sommige Iraniers wel dat Amerikaanse dieven en moordenaars nog minder in het huis van hun buren te zoeken hebben dan zij.

ThinkProgress earlier revealed documents about a secret election-planning meeting organised by the right-wing billionaires David and Charles Koch of the $120 billion dollar conglomerate Koch Industries. The Koch Meeting included powerful executives from the health insurance, coal, manufacturing, banking, and pharmaceutical industry, as well as the top lobbyist from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which represents large corporations like AIG and Wal-Mart.
One of the most startling revelations about the June 2010 event, as Salon’s Joe Conason noted, was the fact that conservative media stars “Krauthammer, Ponnuru, Barone, Moore and Beck were flown out to Aspen, lodged in luxury accommodations, and presumably paid a handsome honorarium by Koch to entertain and enlighten the would-be saviors of the Republic.” Conason asked, “So where are the guardians of media integrity, who made so much noise about the innocuous jawing of the liberals on Journolist?” [read on] (more…)

On his radio show today, Glenn Beck wondered how many people in the country believe in evolution, and said he doesn’t: “I don’t think we came from monkeys. I think that’s ridiculous. I haven’t seen a half-monkey, half-person yet.”
“If I get to the other side and God’s like, ‘You know what, yep, you were a monkey once,’ I’ll be shocked, but I’ll be cool with it,” he said.

I’m always amazed when I receive e-mails from people telling me that I fail to understand how Islam is a uniquely violent, supremely expansionist culture that is intrinsically menacing. The United States is a country with a massive military and nuclear stockpile, that invaded and has occupied two Muslim countries for almost a full decade, that regularly bombs and drones several others, that currently is threatening to attack one of the largest Muslim countries in the world, that imposed a sanctions regime that killed hundreds of thousands of Muslim children, that slaughters innocent people on a virtually daily basis, that has interfered in and controlled countries around the world since at least the middle of the last century, that has spent decades arming and protecting every Israeli war with its Muslim neighbors and enabling a four-decade-long brutal occupation, and that erected a worldwide regime of torture, abduction and lawless detention, much of which still endures. Those are just facts.

The real danger from NPR’s firing of Juan Williams

I’m still not quite over the most disgusting part of the Juan Williams spectacle yesterday: watching the very same people (on the Right and in the media) who remained silent about or vocally cheered on the viewpoint-based firings of Octavia Nasr, Helen Thomas, Rick Sanchez, Eason Jordan, Peter Arnett, Phil Donahue, Ashleigh Banfield, Bill Maher, Ward Churchill, Chas Freeman, Van Jones and so many others, spend all day yesterday wrapping themselves in the flag of “free expression!!!” and screeching about the perils and evils of firing journalists for expressing certain viewpoints. Even for someone who expects huge doses of principle-free hypocrisy — as I do — that behavior is really something to behold. And anyone doubting that there is a double standard when it comes to anti-Muslim speech should just compare the wailing backlash from most quarters over Williams’ firing to the muted acquiescence or widespread approval of those other firings.

Het begon allemaal met de opmerking van Fox News presentator Bill O’Reilly - Muslims killed us at 9/11 - die onder de vrouwelijke leden van het tv-programma The View tot grote verontwaardiging leidde. Whoopy Goldberg - ‘Oh my God’ - en Joy Behar liepen zelfs weg.
Ik ben het, bij hoge uitzondering, nu eens niet met Glenn Greenwald eens.
Ten eerste. Is het niet waar wat O’Reilly zegt?
Waren het geen moslims die 9/11 hebben uitgevoerd. En was het geloof voor de terroristen niet een belangrijke drijfveer voor hun actie? En waarom zou dat niet gezegd mogen worden?
Ten tweede. Ook de opschudding over de opmerking van Juan Williams snap ik niet. Hebt u dat niet, als u mannen met grote baarden in moslimkledij het vliegtuig in ziet komen dat u even denkt. Het zal toch niet? Of, ik hoop dat ze goed gefouilleerd zijn.
Of dat moreel terecht is of niet, daar gaat het niet om, veel mensen hebben dat gewoon. Punt uit!

NPR fires Juan Williams for anti-Muslim bigotry

On Monday, I documented the glaring double standard in our political discourse generally and in the world of journalism specifically, whereby anti-Muslim bigotry is widely tolerated, while those perceived as expressing similar (or even more mild) animus toward other groups are harshly punished (see, for instance, Octavia Nasr, Helen Thomas, Rick Sanchez). That double standard suffered a very welcome blow last night, when NPR announced it was firing its long-time correspondent, Juan Williams, due to blatantly bigoted anti-Muslim remarks Williams made on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News program.

Ik zag Jon Stewart gisteren live op CNN’s Larry King en moest vaak lachen. En ik was niet de enige. Af en toe kon je duidelijk cameramensen of ander volk dat verder niet zichtbaar was, op de achtergrond horen lachen. Bijvoorbeeld toen de Jon Stewart - wat hij doet lijkt nog het meest op politiek cabaret - op de vraag van Larry King ‘Waarom ga je zo tekeer tegen CNN’ antwoordde: “You’re terrible.”

STEWART: No, I was not personally hurt by him calling me a bigot. I make jokes about people for a living. If that’s the least — you should hear what people call me when I’m walking home. KING: Why do you pick on CNN so much?
STEWART: You’re terrible!…
I think CNN has a — an opportunity to be a real arbiter. But being a real arbiter means taking a stand, not just having people on — you’re on the left, you’re on the right. That’s like having people on in the cola wars. You’re from Pepsi; you’re from Coke. What do you think? I think we taste great. I think we taste great. That’s all the time we have.

You think Fox News is fair and honest in reporting? What? No. God no!

Larry King spent the hour with Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart on his show Wednesday night and Stewart was asked what he thought about CNN’s Rick Sanchez being fired after calling Jon Stewart a “bigot” and saying that CNN and other news networks are run by Jewish people. Stewart did not think that Sanchez should have been fired just for his statements on Pete Dominick’s radio show and that CNN was just looking for an excuse to fire him anyway. [read on] (more…)

Drasties doet veel aan hoe landen omgaan met minderheden. De wijze waarop een staat omgaat met minderheden en zwakkeren (vrouwen, kinderen, dieren) vinden wij de belangrijkste maat voor de beschaving van een samenleving.
In Oeganda verscheen onlangs een krant met foto’s van de honderd belangrijkste homo’s van het land en de oproep om ze op te hangen. Eerder probeerden de leiders in dat Afrikaanse semi-dictatuurtje een wet in te voeren die homosexueel gedrag strafbaar zou maken, en wel met de dood.
Opvallend is dat de gewaardeerde Amerikaanse priester Rick Warren, die de inzegening van het presidentschap van Barack Obama deed, heel goede banden heeft met de religieuze leiders in Oeganda. Sterker nog, de voorgestelde wetgeving in Oeganda was geinspireerd door drie Amerikaanse evangelisten die in 2009 in Oeganda de blijde boodschap van Jezus Christus kwamen brengen: dood aan de homo’s. Niet lang na hun bezoek kwam de Oegandese minister van Justitie met het wetsvoorstel dat die boodschap van God moest legaliseren, de Anti-Homosexualiteit Wet. De wet heeft het vanwege internationale druk niet gehaald.
Maar als de haat eenmaal is aangewakkerd, is die moeilijk te stoppen, zie maar.

De Kamer van Koophandel in Amerika steekt miljoenen dollars in advertenties, reclame op tv, automatisch telefoontjes naar kiezers tegen Democratische kandidaten. Ook zaken als groene energie en algemene gezondheidszorg worden zwartgemaakt in door hen betaalde advertenties. Sinds kort mogen bedrijven in de VS net zoveel besteden als ze willen tijdens verkiezingen om een bepaalde kandidaat te steunen.
Het Kamer van Koophandel-geld is een affaire geworden omdat een deel van het geld uit het buitenland afkomstig is. Buitenlanders kunnen dus de uitslag van Amerikaanse verkiezingen beinvloeden.
Nu heeft George Soros een miljoen gegeven aan Media Matters. Een organisatie die op video vastlegt wat voor leugens door de Amerikaanse media worden verspreid. Door media-figuren als Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity en Bill O”Reilly. De mensen die leven van het voeden van de haat voor ‘de anderen’. Volgens deze mensen is het Soros-geld buitenlands geld. Is dat zo, vraagt Glenn Greenwald zich af.

De video van de journalist die in Alaska in de handboeien werd geslagen omdat hij een lastige vraag stelde aan de Republikeinse kandidaat voor de Amerikaanse Senaat staat twee posten hieronder. Daarop is te zien dat ook andere journalisten werden bedreigd. Glenn Greenwald valt vooral over het feit dat de lijfwacht van de favoriet van de Teaparty Joe Miller soldaten in actieve dienst blijken te zijn. Glenn Beck-fan Joe Miller verdedigde de handelwijze van zijn lijfwacht.
Dus nog even samengevat. In de Verenigde Staten van Amerika worden soldaten gehuurd door Republikeinse politieke kandidaten om journalisten die lastige vragen stellen onschadelijk te maken.
Nogmaals, voor de mensen die er later ingekomen zijn, we hebben het hier niet over Zimbabwe of Myanmar maar over de VS.

Joe Miller’s private “guards” were active-duty military

One of the more disturbing election incidents took place in Alaska on Sunday night, when private “guards” working for GOP Senate nominee Joe Miller forcibly detained and handcuffed a journalist as he tried to ask the candidate questions which he did not want to answer. This photograph shows the journalist, Alaska Dispatch’s Tony Hopfinger, handcuffed in a chair, surrounded by Miller’s guards. This story became much worse yesterday when video was released that was taken by a reporter from the Anchorage Daily News showing that these guards thuggishly threatened at least two other reporters, from ADN, with physical detention as they tried to find out what happened, demanded that they leave or else “be handcuffed,” and physically blocked them from filming the incident all while threatening to physically remove them from the event, which was advertised to the public. A reporter was handcuffed in Alaska by private security guards working for the Republican Senate nominee Joe Miller for Alaska.
Why?
He asked the Teaparty-favorite a question he did not like and did not want to answer.
It was a simple question about Miller’s previous employment.
And not only that reporter was harassed and handcuffed. In this video the goons threaten to detain other journalists trying to talk to the detained Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger.

And all Miller had to do was answer a simple question about his previous employment. Lucky for his Democrat opponent Scott McAdams, dodging that one question has led to a full week of very bad news about Joe Miller, and the more the story unfolds, the worse it gets. [read on] (more…)

The Tides Foundation, one of the progressive groups targeted by California freeway shooter Byron Williams, has called for an advertising boycott of Fox News host Glenn Beck. Williams appears to have been motivated by Beck, whom he called a teacher who “blew my mind.” Tides warned, “The next ‘assassin’ may succeed, and if so, there will be blood on many hands.”

Private security guards working for Republican Palin-endorsed teaparty-favorite Senate nominee Joe Miller for Alaska yesterday handcuffed a reporter who was asking Miller questions he did not want to answer.
I don’t know that much about American law but in a civilised country those security guards would be arrested and prosecuted.
See this photograph for a taste of how thuggish this behavior was. The next time Miller goes to lecture everyone on how urgent it is that we return to our Constitutional roots, perhaps he can stand next to this photograph of his private goons “arresting” an adversarial reporter. This ought to provoke serious objections from any actual journalists, and these private “guards” (and Miller himself) ought to be investigated and, if warranted, arrested for false imprisonment. Die partijen hebben volgens de aanklagers dus geen been om op te staan.

6. In het huis van zijn vriend Andre S. is ze gevallen van het balkon, nadat ze cocaine had gesnoven. Ze hebben haar begraven in de Bubali-plas (bij Terror Jaap)
7. Ze is gevallen op een steen en was op slag dood, met zijn vader heeft hij haar begraven in een huis bij de Racquet Club (tegen de FBI en de advocaat van Beth Twitty)
