Forty thousand Norwegians gathered on central Youngstorget square in Oslo yesterday. There they sang the song 'Barn av regnbuen' ('Children of the Rainbow'), the Norwegain version of 'My Rainbow Race' from American folksinger Pete Seeger.
It was their response to rightwing killer Anders Behring Breivik's remark at his trial that he hates the song for it's Marxist influence on Norwegian culture.
The happening started with a call posted on Facebook by Norwegian women Christine Bar and Lili Hjonnevag. They asked others to join them in singing the song on Youngstorget square. They expected few people but within days four thousand people had responded on Facebook that they would join them. In the end ten times more showed up.
The same day that Mitt Romney became the unofficial presidential candidate for the Republican Party, now that Newt Gingrich has withdrawn his candidacy, Barack Obama hit the news hard in America. And got attacked for it by Republicans.
Not so much what the president said - reducing the debt burden for students - but where he said it, annoyed the hell out of Republicans. Compare the presence of this man to Mitt - 'severely conservative' - Romney. I really can't wait for the debates.
The War on Women, on Christmas, on Pizza's, on Fox news....
The Vatican is angry with America's 55,000 Catholic nuns - organised in the Leadership Conference of Women Religious - because they supported President Obama's compromise with bishops over insurance coverage for birth control for women. .
American Catholic bishops like Daniel Jenky are angry too:
Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care.
In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path.
Sister Simone Campbell, head of the organization for nuns, responded:
I've no idea what they're talking about [...] Our role is to live the gospel with those who live on the margins of society. That's all we do.
The case of Trayvon Martin is very interesting in a country often described as 'that shining city on the hill'. A country in a state of affairs the rest of the world can only hope it will achieve one day far in the future. A country called the United States of America.
Trayvon Martin was an unarmed 17-year old black boy who was hunted down by white vigilante George Zimmerman (28) in Florida and shot dead while carrying a bag of candy and a hoodie,
Now it's clear George Zimmerman was first arrested by the police at the scene of the crime. At the police station he was released after he explained it was all a case of self defense against the unarmed Trayvon. Zimmerman was supposedly bruised and bloodied.
But on a just released ABC News video of Zimmerman arriving at the police station we see a clean, relaxed man with no blood or bruises on his body.
And there's more.
1. The body of Trayvon Martin was tagged as a John Doe. An unknown person. Why was that?
The Washington Post wrote that in a police report “that was completed at 3:07 a.m. on Feb. 27 Trayvon’s full name, city of birth, address and phone number is listed.” Yet, Trayvon’s body was reportedly “tagged as a John Doe” and his father wasn’t informed of his death until he filed a missing person report later on the 27th.
This is what former Michigan Republican chairman Paul Anuzis had to say about the add Republican Pete Hoekstra aired at the Super Bowl. Hoekstra, who is an immigrant born in Groningen in the Netherlands, wants to become the senator of Michigan, a seat now held by Democrat Debbie Stabenow.
The cost of this add is a 100.000 dollars.
In the video an Asian woman in a rice paddy in supposedly China, though the scene was shot in California, is thanking Stabenow in broken English for making it possible “we take your jobs.” :
Republican Anuzis responded to questions from ThinkProgress at the Conservative Political Action Conference:
read full articleKEYES: There’s been a bit of a controversy this week with this new ad. What’s your take? Do you think it was in poor taste?
ANUZIS: I’m not too worried about the poor taste, I just think it was a dumb ad. Pete Hoekstra voted to raise taxes, Pete Hoekstra voted for the “Bridge to Nowhere,” Pete Hoekstra voted five times to increase the debt ceiling, and then he goes out and leads with his chin by saying, “I’m against Debbie Stabenow because she sold all of our debt to China.” Well, he...
"Pete Hoekstra Superbowl TV ad in MI Senate race really, really dumb. I mean really," tweeted top GOP strategist Mike Murphy.“Stabenow has got to go," wrote Michigan GOP consultant Nick De Leeuw on Facebook. "But shame on Pete Hoekstra for that appalling new advertisement. ... Racism and xenophobia aren’t any way to get things done."
Rick Perry has this to say to the American people: "I am not ashamed to admit I'm a Christian."
But 'oops' they forgot to turn of the like/dislike button.

This foto was posted on the leftwing blog DailyKos when he had 32.122 dislikes.
After that it went gownhill for the Republican contender for the presidency to now 102.631 dislikes. .
This is how ruthless American businessman try to scare people into?:
1) buying more guns,
2) not voting for president Obama,
3) oppose not existing gun control laws,
It's the adcertisement of a gun company that warns of coming gun control and tha compares President Obama to Adolf Hitler, Chairman Mao, Pol Pot and Joseph Stalin.
The USAAmmo ad shows pictures of Obama side-by-side with dictators who committed atrocities across the world. The video warns that gun control is imminent and that the U.S. will face millions of casualties if the brave Americans are not allowed to defend themselves against the evil in the White House
Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson had this to say about the strikers who affected "schools, hospitals, airports, even driving tests."
"Frankly, I'd have them all shot!" Clarkson exclaimed. "I would take them outside and execute them in front of their families. I mean how dare they go on strike when they've got these gilt-edged pensions that are going to be guaranteed while the rest of us have to work for a living?"
Those remarks left The One Show host Matt Baker making an on-air apology at the end of the show. Even British Prime Minister David Cameron got involved when he told ITV Thursday that he hadn't see the interview but, "it's a silly thing to say."
And now Jeremy Clarkson apologised himself... sort of.
The Democrats have put together a video about the man they consider to be the strongest opposition to President Obama in the election next year, Mitt Romney, "the story of two men trapped in one body." .
It is directed at the Republican primary voters and it aims to trip up Romney right out of the starting gates. So if Newt Gingrich - or one of the other oops candidates - manages to run a half decent campaign for more than four consecutive weeks, (s)he will become the presidential nominee for the Republican Party.
Breaking News: Mitt Romney's campaign is holding 12 different conference calls today to respond to this ad. Presumably 6 will be in favor of it, and six against it. (Groans, I know...) But on a more serious note, it's clear the one thing they don't want to talk about is the Union Leader's endorsement of Newt Gingrich.
