The Secret Service investigated a teacher in Jefferson County, Alabama after he used a hypothetical assassination of President Obama to teach angles to his geometry students, the Birmingham News reports:

The teacher was apparently teaching his geometry students about parallel lines and angles, officials said. He used the example of where to stand and aim if shooting Obama.

“He was talking about angles and said, ‘If you’re in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president,’ ” said Joseph Brown, a senior in the geometry class.



The Secret Service questioned the math teacher, but decided not to arrest him or charge him with a crime after they determined he was not “a credible threat,” an agency spokesperson said. Superintendent Phil Hammonds called the incident “extremely poor judgment” and “a poor choice of words,” but said he has no plans to fire the teacher. “We are going to have a long conversation with him about what’s appropriate,” Hammonds said. The Birmingham News was unable to reach the teacher for comment. (HT: TPM)

In a test to demonstrate reductions to cabin turbulence in the 3-series convertible, BMW convinced Dutch model Sylvie van der Vaart to sit in two 3-series convertibles while a wind tunnel generates a 37 mph air stream.
The first car is a 1987 model, while the second is the current 3-series. van der Vaart adopts period clothing and hair style for each of the cars, and we get to see her flipped hair swishing every which way in the older car. And, of course, in the new car her hair is completely unruffled.

Indian athlete Santhi Soundarajan fears Caster Semenya will face the same “humiliation” that she did if the South African fails a gender test. Soundarajan was stripped of 800m silver at the 2006 Asian Games after failing a test and later attempted suicide. The 28-year-old told BBC Radio 5 live: “It was a very bitter and humiliating experience for me.

Dutch scientists: walking backward helps people think more clearly.
A study in The Netherlands, published in the journal Psychological Science, tested the ability of 38 men and women to name colors. During the tests participants were told to step four paces to the left, right, backward or forward. When the words didn’t relate in any way to the colors in which they were displayed, the performance was quickest when the subjects stepped backward.
“Backward locomotion appears to mobilize cognitive resources,” conclude the authors, of Radboud University Nijmegen. “Thus, whenever you encounter a difficult situation, stepping backward may boost your capability to deal with it effectively.”

Sky Sports kan maar niet genoeg krijgen van de laatste overwinning van Nederland in de WK-kwalificatiewedstrijden. En terecht lijkt me. Dat gaat echt wat worden met Nederland straks. Fantastisch gespeeld publiekslieveling Bas Zuiderent en multi-miljonair Ryan ten Doeschate. En Godzijdank hadden de spelers na afloop nog (2 x 11 is) 22 ballen over.

DUTCH DELIGHT IN WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS, 22 balls to spare

Ryan ten Doeschate contributed with both bat and ball as the Netherlands eased to a seven-wicket win over Kenya in Potchefstroom. The Kenyans won the toss and decided to bat in the World Cup qualifier at Senwes Park. They were restricted to 247-8. Ryan then went on to smash a whirlwind unbeaten century to lead his country to a comfortable victory with 22 balls to spare.
