At a meeting with Republicans in Irvine yesterday, former Republican House Majority Leader Dick Armey shared an odd conspiracy theory:

De aanschafprijs  was 127,5 miljoen euro, de verkoop leverde 59 miloen euro op. Dus inderdaad de Nederlandse topspelers - Ruud van Nistelrooy, Wesley Sneijder, Royston Drenthe, Arjen Robben, Rafael van der Vaart en Klaas Jan Huntelaar -  hebben Real Madrid (los van salaris en bonussen) 68.5 miljoen euro gekost. Maar dan wordt wel vergeten wat Real Madrid in die tijd allemaal heeft gewonnen. Nou dan.
Graag verwijs ik even naar dit artikel op drasties in 2007 over de aankopen van Bernd Schuster die toen trainer was van Real Madrid.

Ieder mens die niet ideologisch wordt gedreven en een beetje verstand in zijn kop heeft zou nu moeten weten dat het criminaliseren van drugs zinloos is. Een blinde kip ziet dat het gebruik er niet door afneemt en dat de criminaliteit niet in te dammen is.
Maar u hoeft het niet van een blinde kip aan te nemen. Er is ook objectief controleerbaar onderzoek naar gedaan. Daaruit blijkt dat het gebruik van hard en soft drugs niet toeneemt als je ze uit de criminaliteit haalt en dat de misdaad er om heen sterk afneemt. Je hoeft maar te kijken naar het succes van de heroine-aanpak in Nederland. En in Portugal is het drugsgebruik na de decriminalisatie van drugs in 2001 over de hele linie is afgenomen. 
Het is eigenlijk heel simpel. Beleid is succesvol als het mensen accepteert zoals ze zijn. Beleid dat op basis van religie of andere ideologieen mensen in keurslijven dwingt waar ze niet in passen, werkt uiteindelijk niet, nergens, nooit.
Laten we hopen dat de VS nu eens het goede voorbeeld geeft.

De uitkomst is voorspelbaar. De toespraak die Fox News-coryfee Glenn Beck hield voor 78.000 volgelingen tijdens zijn ‘Restoring Honor’ rally in Washingtoon zal worden gecontroleerd op zijn accuraatheid. Maar ze zijn nog bezig. Wel is de juisheid bijgehouden van stellingen van Beck heeft verkondigd in zijn Fox News show. De uitslag best mee. Van de 17 uitspraken bleek er 1 juist, 1 ietwat juist, de rest nonsens.
Vandaar wellicht dat Beck zo tegen scholen en universiteiten tekeer gaat.

Last night, Fox News televangelist Glenn Beck railed on universities, declaring that “we have been setting up re-education camps. We call them universities.” Beck also explained that “our children are being submerged in the filth of communism” at schools around the country.
“Let me ask you, there was a time not long ago in this country we walked you through walls of fire to make sure we weren’t funding Hamas or Hezbollah. I have news for you. There are a lot of universities that are as dangerous with the indoctrination of the children as terrorists are in Iran or North Korea.”

Investeer in uw toekomst en koop ‘Russisch voor beginners’. En als dat boek niet te koop is, schaf dan toch maar een Koran aan. Want wie als expat veel geld wil verdienen moet naar Rusland, en anders naar Saudi-Arabië of Bahrein. In deze landen verdienen expats het meeste, zo blijkt uit een onderzoek van HSBC Bank.
Wilt u weten waar van de 25 onderzochte landen een expat echt het allerminste verdient: Nederland! Gevolgd door Duitsland (Van Gaal niet meegeteld), Spanje, Frankrijk en België. Het hele lijstje verderop.
Naar Nederland komen de meeste buitenlanders (60 pct) dan ook niet voor het geld maar vooral voor het mooie weer. Naar Saudi-Arabië gaan negen van de tien expats puur voor het geld. De resterende één op de tien zit er voor de mooie vrouwen.

The Moscow Times - Russia, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain are home to the wealthiest expats, with euro-zone countries falling behind when it comes to paying for foreign expertise, according to a survey of expats by HSBC Bank released Wednesday. The Netherlands is on the bottom.
The survey found that expats in Russia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore enjoyed the greatest wealth overall, having higher salaries, more disposable income and more luxury items like swimming pools, properties and yachts.

Democratie begint op school. Op Amerikaanse scholen zijn er al verkiezingen voor klassevertegenwoordigers vanaf tien jaar. Gekozen worden een voorzitter, een vice-voorzitter, een secretaris en dan helemaal onderaan het JdeWitje, de reporter.
Ook de bestrijding van rassendiscriminatie begint op school. Hoe ver Amerika daarmee is gevorderd blijkt uit deze school in Mississippi. Het ras van de verschillende klassevertegenwoordigers staat bij de verkiezingen van te voren vast.

A new Newsweek poll has found that a majority of Republicans believe President Obama “sympathizes with the goals of Islamic fundamentalists who want to impose Islamic law around the world.” Only 33 percent of Republicans said the “allegation” was “probably not true,” while 38 percent said it was probably true and 14 percent said it was “definitely true.”

De Democraten staan er uitzonderlijk slecht voor in de tussentijdse verkiezingen. Veel progressieven zijn kwaad op Barack Obama omdat hij steeds maar weer zijn best doet om het een paar gematigde Republikeinen naar de zin te maken, in plaats van te vechten voor de idealen van de vooruitstrevende mensen die op hem hebben gestemd.
Het is moeilijk te geloven dat de Amerikanen bij de verkiezingen in november de macht in de gekozen volksvertegenwoordiging zal teruggeven aan de Republikeinen. Toch is dat heel goed mogelijk, als je de onderstaande Gallup Poll moet geloven. En dan ook nog aan een Grand Old Party (GOP) in één van haar meest primitieve vormen. De partij die de VS in het laatste decennium vrijwel heeft verwoest door een mengsel van extreme corruptie, roekeloze, zinloze oorlogen en wetteloosheid. Maar het is historisch bekend dat het mengsel van economische onderdrukking en het opstoken van racistische en etnische haatdragendheid zeer potent is.

Het heeft even geduurd maar eindelijk is ie dan binnen… de ‘Onder de loep Award’. We hebben er met zijn allen hard voor moeten knokken maar dan heb je ook wat.
En met ‘allen’ bedoel ik niet alleen redactie en medewerkers van drasties. Maar zeker ook de vaste bezoekers van drasties zonder wiens spirit, wit en last but not least hullie d’r geweldige knowhow van de Nederlandse taal we deze prijs nevernooit in de wacht hadden gesleept.
De prijs is toegekend door het in de Paranormaal begaafde wereld toonaangevende blog Onder de loep. Het heeft al aangekondigd het Amsterdamse Carré af te huren voor de prijsuitreiking. Het is nog niet duidelijk of Freek de Jonge, Joep van ‘t Hek of Theo Maassen de prijs gaat uitreiken. Maar ze staan alle drie te springen. Freek niet zo hoog meer natuurlijk. 
Wat u natuurlijk nog wilt weten is waarom drasties deze eervolle prijs heeft gekregen? Zie hier de verklaring van het blog ‘Onder de loep’ in haar lofrede op drasties:

Maar deze award krijgt het blog vooral van ons vanwege bewezen moed. Meer door toeval, dan door wijsheid werd er een artikel geplaatst over een opmerking van een paragnost. Daarmee werd de doos van Pandora geopend. De sitebeheerder catagoriseerde het artikel niet voor niets ook onder de rubriek: ‘nou breekt m’n klomp.’ Het blog kreeg visite van randgroepparagnosten en gedupeerden daarvan. Door scheldende en dreigende reacties van deze paragnosten, kreeg dit artikel een vervolg … en nog een … en nog een….

Crowd counting isn’t an exact science. Still, we like to know how many honorable American patriots came to the ‘Restoring Honor’ rally organised by Fox News host Glenn Beck. Experts from CBS said the rally this weekend in Washington drew about 87,000 people.
The great man himself Glenn Beck said there were somewhere between 300,000 and 600,000 white folks and 17 blacks.
The Republican politician Michele Bachmann claimed there were more than a million people.
So who is right? Again, it’s not an exact science, but a very good guess can be made based on the available evidence. Let’s start with a look at the three images of the rally:

Nu Europa één grote liefdevolle club van eensgezinde mensen is geworden, hoe moet het nu verder met schelden en belasteren? Dat vraagt de schrijver van dit artikel zich af.
Vroeger was het eenvoudig. De Britten vochten met de Nederlanders dus schreef een Brit vierhonderd jaar geleden: “Your tongue? ‘Twill teach you to kiss closer, not like a slobbering Dutchman!” Vele andere scheldwoorden (Dutch Courage) bestaan nog altijd zoals deze, mij onbekend: Dutch wife” (prostitute or sex doll). 
Wist u trouwens dat voor de WW’s Duitsers bekend stonden als de hippies van hun tijd: flamboyante romantici?
Maar nogmaals, nu de Europeanen geen oorlogen meer voeren en grenzen zijn afgeschaft, hoe weten de inwoners nou wie ze moeten beledigen en hoe?

The results are compiled of mobile usage data of 60.000 mobile subscribers in the US.

Nine hundred cases of abuse reported in Dutch clergy

The Hague, News24 - A commission set up five months ago to look into suspected sexual abuse by Roman Catholic clergy in the Netherlands said yesterday it has received about 900 reports from alleged victims.
“The 900 reports come mainly from victims but also from relatives of the victims who contacted us,” Gert Jan Verhoog, a spokesperson for the commission said.

New photo’s of Jimena Navarrete, showing the new Miss Universe from Mexico in a controversial upskirt pose, have surfaced on the road from Beijing to Zhangjiakou. That caused Chinese truckdrivers to hold their trucks causing the largest traffic jam in worldhistory.
Attention people in the Netherlands and elsewhere, you are now officially disallowed to complain about traffic ever again:

A traffic jam stretching 60 miles in China has entered its ninth day with no end in sight. It’s all happening on the G110, the major route from Beijing to Zhangjiakou, Xinhua News reported.

Science Daily: By 2100 only 18% to 45% of the plants and animals making up ecosystems in global, humid tropical forests may remain as we know them today, according to a new study led by Greg Asner at the Carnegie Institution’s Department of Global Ecology. The research combined new deforestation and selective logging data with climate-change projections. It is the first study to consider these combined effects for all humid tropical forest ecosystems and can help conservationists pinpoint where their efforts will be most effective. The study is published in the August 5, 2010, issue of Conservation Letters.

De krant geeft als mogelijke verklaring voor het geringe aantal inschrijvingen dat het niet helemaal duidelijk is of de opleiding is om de Friese taal aan of af te leren. In ieder geval is wel zeker dat Rintje Ritsma eindelijk is gestopt? Nou maar duimen dat ie niet wordt uitgeloot.

Remember the Iraq war build-up? Just to remind you how effective the misinformation machine by rightwing organisations like Fox News is in the United States of America.
A new Pew poll finds that almost one in five Americans — and 31 percent of Republicans — believe that President Obama is a Muslim. The poll found that even 10 percent of Democrats hold that belief.

In Amerika bestaan bumperstickers voor van alles. Simpele boodschappen… daar zijn Amerikanen sterk in. Zoals deze. 

Een Republikeinse (teabagger) kandidaat voor het parlement, Allen West, zei dat bovenstaande sticker hem woest maakte. Omdat volgens hem de persoon die zo’n sticker op zijn auto plakt alle Amerikaanse rechten en vrijheiden, ja zeg maar de VS, wil weggeven. Kortom, West heeft alles van Geert Wilders gelezen. Je vraagt je wel af hoe het met hem zal gaan als er echt iets gebeurd in de wereld. 
De man rijdt zelf natuurlijk rond met deze bumpersticker.

Er blijkt een hele industrie voor dit soort stickers te zijn, zie deze.

He is the most successful Republican fundraiser and got over two million hits on YouTube for a speech at a Florida Tea Party gathering. Now a video has surfaced of the man making inflammatory statements about Islam. It all began with the innocent “Coexist” bumper stickers, which display the symbols of Christianity, Judaism, Islam and other religions together. A sticker which made him furious, he says.
One wonders if this makes you furious what else would?
Anywahy, it’s pretty clear Allen West has read everything of Dutch anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders.

Euthanasia Causes 2% of All Dutch Deaths

Dallas Blog - The Dutch government has disclosed that the number of reported cases of assisted suicides or euthanasia increased 13 percent in 2009, which now accounts for two percent of all deaths in the European country. The news that already worries pro-life advocates had been discussions of establishing a euthanasia ‘hospital’ to facilitate more killings.
Life News reports that, ‘the euthanasia numbers continue to rise and the newly-reported increase follows a 10.5 percent rise in the deaths from 2008-2009.”
